Okay, I was just on the internet and a supposed 22 original mile 1964 VW beetle was up for sale. The beetle front bumper had a more curved upper half bar to clear the trunk. I read on a VW restoration site that 1967 was the only year for the more curved upper bar and the 66 and earlier had the more evenly shaped bar matching curve of bumper blade. What's the deal? I'm looking into purchasing a 63 but my pictures of the car showing what I researched as a 67 front bumper. I prefer the more evenly shaped front bumper myself. Thanks |

No offense, but if you found a 64 beetle with 22 documented miles on it, why are you worrying about what bumper is on it? _________________ 1960 Indigo Blue Ragtop (Blue Barry)

Nah... he see's a protruding over rider bumper .. on a documented 22 mile 1964... but "read on the internet" that the protruding bumper was only 1967..
I dont think so...... .. not 67 only...

My 64 has what I thought was a 67 bumper on it but the protusion is more pronounced. Rear has the more sloping overriders as well so figured someone stripped a 67 for the bumpers..

One thing I will note..
While they all protrude.. some..
Ones found after 1966.. the upper front bar does seem to have a more pronounced if not square look to it..

The bumper blade & uprights are the same (1955-67), but the overrider bow (towel rail) has a more noticeable bend in the center on a '67. |

The "I read on the internet" VW was black and was very pretty. Thanks for the good information. I'll pretty much go with what I prefer. Glad to know those style bumpers were available in those years. |
