|
|
I am looking at a 1975 Type 2 VW Bus that I am wanting to purchase, it has a little rust around the rocker panels and this is about it.
It has all the original windows and original engine and transaxle, it was running when parked about 15 years ago.
I would like to know what would be a good reasonable price to offer or to pay for this vehicle.
Thanks Leland |

Yes, bus owners always park their buses because they are running so well and just want to quit driving them so as not to effect the resale value 15 years later.
If the present owner can't get it to run so you can drive it out on the highway and get it nice and hot, then assume both the engine and tranny are shot or at least on their way out.
It is reasonable to offer just a couple of hundred dollars for a rust bus that can not be driven. A "C" note is all the guy at the wrecking yard is going to give them for it if you don't buy it, if he pays them anything for it at all. |

not running with rust $500 - $800. You'll have $10,000 in it getting it to a reliable driver. You'll have $30,000 in it if you want it to look like it did when it was one or two years old. _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |

the arm chair cheapskates will say $500~800
the seller will say $5000~8000
it's up to you to find a happy place in between those two numbers. _________________

You(buyer) need to open the engine lid.
Is there a fuel injection system still there?
Has it been retro-fitted with carb(s)?
Does it have the transaxle for a '75?
Was there a small engine fire taking it off the road?
At least you chose the right time of year-wasps will be dormant when
you pop the engine lid to learn what you're buying into. |

THIS! Combined with the looking in the classy section for balance.
Ok now we can go off track - get modded and shut this sucker down
