Figured it's time to start a new thread about my latest project: a 1967 kombi that I'll be installing an original westy interior into.
Found this bus in Ball Ground Georgia. Made and offer and picked it up within days of its posting here on the Samba.
Couldn't be more excited. Bought it from an old hippy who was daily driving her before his health got bad.
Had a quick paint job back in the 90s. Rust on rockers is starting to bubble up again.
Had a friend here in louisville with an original 1967 Westy interior I was able to pick up and I'll be recovering everything with new Sewfine upholstery.
Here are some pics of day 1:

The ASS sticker on the left rear bumper is from about 1996.
I made those for the Appalachian Split Screen (ASS) club and passed them out at the Buses on the Blue Ridge camp out that I used to put on.
Funny to see it, thanks for bringing back the memories.
Congrats on the new to you bus. |

Ha! @npbusguy - do you remember how many stickers you made?
Love having the interesting bits of info on it.
1996 would have been the year the owner I bought it from bought it and painted it. He owned for 20 years and he believes he was second owner, making me the third. _________________ Madmanvan

Judging by the location of the outlet/circuit breaker and the cabinet handles you truly have a '67 interior. |

Did you cut the passenger side rear cab to have that window light?
Mine covers a window (where my closet is). I don't think I can bring myself to cut an original cabinet, but I love that little side table, and all the light. _________________ Madmanvan

The sewfine material looks good. Don't throw away the yellow covers, someone will want them. I'm sure you know this but you don't want to throw away anything from your old interior either. Panels, seats, etc, they are all valuable. _________________ "A rolling bus gathers no rust." |

while grungy now, the originals do clean up well, and you can not beat them for durability. I would try to keep them. _________________ regards

... yes, cut the closet down to make use of the light from a now functional opening window and to get rid of that annoying blind spot. Then made the "table top" by using a Westy table cut to size and flipped over, to have the white plastic edge for continuity... have thought for years to cut the closet down and finally did it... Figured an SO42 interior is wrong for an SO33 any way...so glad I did. _________________ 5/50, pastel green 11G - SOLD

... had a 1956 DD panel and I agree, that's all blind spot, by comparison... added a camper door, with window... helped a little.

Cold night here in Louisville KY. Decided to spend the time in the heated part of. My shop cleaning the old interior.
Found *almost* enough pieces to rebuild an original spice rack. Now what to do about the two missing pieces of laminate?
Also, found a 1975 San Francisco map in one of the drawers. My wife and I used to live there, and I'm considering 'wallpapering' it under the head knocker... the underside of the cabinet is pretty stained and gouged anyway....
The spice rack:

Nevamar Grand Isle Maple is known to be a very close match to the original laminate:

There are also companies that reproduce very good matches. nlavw.com is one of them. _________________ RPM=(MPH*336* (R&P*4th*1.26))/Tire Diameter in inches |
