I've never seen a stop like that. You can see my pedal stop in the picture. It's part of the metal pedal. That should hit the floor. _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum

No sir.. The part of your metal pedal rests against that plastic pedal stop. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

Here's a picture of when I added it to my 70'. Look under you mat. There should be holes in the floor for it. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

Ah, I learn something every day here on the Samba. Here's a pic of that stop from the internet
Yes, I am missing that but my holes have rubber plugs in them so I'm not sure my bus used that stop or not. _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum

I remember BD or Westfabulous talking about this part a few years ago. At that point it was considered rare, but no one could exactly pinpoint what years it was used on Nd it it was even meant to be a permanent part or removed after delivery _________________ Rebuild your own FI Harness..My Harness

I'll order one but I still don't think my pedal would hit that stop. There's just too much gap _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum

They are suppose to be there I know on the carb powered early bays. I can't speak for later years. In the last few years, many people are repo'ing the part. CIP-1 sells them and other places.
Most floor mats, including VW originals had the cut outs for the pedal stop. Wolfsburg West's do as well.
After I installed mine, I adjusted my throttle cable so it would not put stress on the throttle shaft with the pedal on the floor. You want to have just a bit of slack yet achieve full throttle on the carb. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

Is there enough slack with your throttle cable to adjust it so the bottom of the pedal will hit that stop or does that new linkage not allow the pedal to go all the way down? _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

I always wondered what those cut outs were for in the floor mats. Now I know. Thanks _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum

Here's some info I found on the stop. I still don't think it will solve my problem.

With shipping the total from CIP1 would be over $22. I may hold off until I need to order other items as well _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum

I'm still in the camp that they were meant to be on the buses permanently. I don't buy the "break in" story. They wouldn't of cut the floor mats or had holes in the floor pan if it wasn't meant to be mounted full time.
When I bought my 70', I couldn't figure out why it had so many holes in the floor and many missing pieces there. When I bought that pedal stop, it simply snapped in place, blocking two of the factory holes. It made since to me then and after I readjusted my throttle cable to not hammer my carb when I floored it doing 12 second quarter miles... _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

On all the ultra low-milage early bays I've seen, the the throttle stop plate holes are caulked like the speedometer clip, or other seams in the body panels. I believe, from that, the plate would have lived there for the life of the car. When the accelerator pedal stop was removed, the pedal metal tab became a cm or two longer to compensate.
Buy it soon, they go in and out of production every few years. I wanted two years for mine.

I solved my problem of the pedal "foot" not reaching the floor. I removed the linkage and cut new threads onto each end of the pedal rod using an M5x.8 die. Then I cut off 1/4" of material off each end. This made the rod 1/2" shorter and when reinstalled was almost perfect. I readjusted the throttle cable at the carburetor and now I have the correct travel.
I still may get the plastic pedal stop and when I do I can reset the cable again at the carburetor.
Lastly, I'd just like to put a quick plug in for the people at Butty's Bits. They went back and forth through email this morning trying to help me solve my issue. _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum

What size rubber grommet did you use. The one he sent me was too big and the top folded a little. In fairness he told me it was going to be too large for the hole in my late bay.
