Wednesday when I promised myself I would not drive it again till the exhaust was perfected (needs a muffler strap) or two weeks had passed which ever takes longer. Pretty rainy here today so muffler might see work today. _________________ Support Small Business.

A thousand miles last week but sometimes it does sit a spell w/o moving.
More than any other vehicle I own, the van does not mind being idle for a long time -- starts with the flick of the key like it was just parked an hour ago. |

Feels great, doesn't it? The door on our place needed a tweak to get full travel and clearance, but worth it. _________________ '87 Westy in Wolfram Grey Metallic |

Last night delivering a 450 pound professional table saw to Whidbey Island in the dark and getting horribly lost on the way back to the ferry. My excellent sense of direction doesn't work so well in the fog. Might be time to invest in a GPS system. At least I was able to use my high beams and extra driving lights for a extended period. Hella 500ff lights work pretty damn good. The reflection off the road signs was almost blinding. |

It's my daily driver. Which sort of bothers me a little, because I am not keen on racking up a bunch of mileage just commuting to work. But totally cool to take my lunchtime nap when I work a regular shift.
But, still... I need to get something else as a DD. |

Sadly, seven months ago in mid-July. We now live overseas most of the year, and use the Westy as our traveling base camp in the summers. We get to use it a few weeks a year before it goes back in storage. It's been great, never needing anything special other than a bottle of Stabil in the tank and to disconnect the batteries. Still doesn't prevent me from stockpiling parts from various sources to swap/install for the upcoming summer. I'm interested in what airport security will say when I walk through with my new big shot shifter this summer. _________________ '85 Westy |

Awesome picture above...
A week ago. Time for cap/rotor, plugs, wires, injectors, new power steering pump flush/filter, oil change. Can't wait to feel some lost or never felt power come back! _________________ 84 Wolfsburg Edition Westy |

New years day Jan 1st returning to Upstate NY after a 2 week trip to FL to visit family over the holidays.
there's soo much salt crust on the roads still. need several days of heavy rain to wash them. plus the salt from our Jan 1st return.. needs to be hosed off. amazing the impact it has on parts. but it must make the sacrifice every 2ish years. _________________

Fortunately salt is not an issue here, mag chloride yes, but to a lesser extent. Gravel is the snow plow choice for our roads. With that said enemy number one still lurks, unattentive, distracted, poorly trained drivers! For that reason my syncro westy is for adventures only and occasional weekly use to keep everything moving.
I am lucky enough to have an 87 bare bones passenger vanagon for my "sacrificial lamb". Love that van and could not handle driving a honda or other boring car as a DD. My wife has a new crv, boringest car in the world. I would go nutzo not DD an old vw. I choose the passenger vanagon as a DD because it is safe for my two little kids, reliable (really it is!), great heat, roomy and even though its rear wheel drive, with studded tires, that thing is a beast on the snowy icy roads here 6 months of the year! |

Salt is for Margaritas - no idea what MgCl2 is good for. |
