It's been 6 years since I touched my car so my memory is foggy at best...

What does the rear hood latch top part look like? the Part that attached to the rear hood? I order all my parts from cip1.ca (free shipping to Canada) and they don't seem to have it?

I took it off the car in 2010 but forget what it looks like... if I had a pic I could maybe find it?? I can't seem to find any pics of it online...

Anyone know where to get one incase it's gone?

thanks!

here's where it would attach:

this is on cip1 and listed as the front pin... will it work on the rear too???

looks like maybe just needs the washer flipped to behind the pin?

Are there any instructions out there that show the proper way in which to install/adjust
this part?

I think the Bentley covers it.
It is intended to "fail" to the open position. If it doesnt it can be a problem. There are threads on how/where to drill a hole to get you out of that potential jam.
Many ghias drive around un-hitched. I am right now. Decklid does not pop up and its always easy to open it up.

I drilled the "escape" hole a few years ago and I have used it many, many times Embarassed .
It really comes in handy when you over do it on the adjusting.
(In the summer time I have to use the lift offs because of the high temps here. 110+ is not
out of the ordinary).
The way I have been adjusting the deck latch is by leaving everything
finger-tight and gently closing the lid. I then use the "escape hole" and
open the lid. I am assuming everything is lined up now and tighten it up.
This process works pretty good...I just thought maybe somebody out there has a better way.
With lift offs

The rear decklid latch removal, installation and adjustment is very briefly described on page A61-6 of the 1960 VW Karmann Ghia Shop Manual - Body Section that can be found under the Technical tab at the top of each page here on The Samba.

Just wait till the next time you drop the motor then you can close the lid and adjust the pin with ease from inside the engine compartment, meanwhile drive around unpinned.

?

If you don't want to drive around "unhinged", to use Darrel's word, you could simply cut a slot in each of the bolts that hold the female part of the hood-locking mechanism down, like this:

You could then, in the event that your hood release cable should snap or the mechanism malfunction, undo the bolts from underneath with a screwdriver, lift the hood a few inches, get your hand in and release the hood.
