I took off the cover for the wiper motor and fresh air fan, which is inside the trunk on my car. The 'old' gasket that was used there consisted of a combination of 'putty' and foam rubber.

What is supposed to be there? I couldn't find a gasket listed for this in any of the 4 catalogs that I checked. Did the factory use putty?

A side note is that I get 10 times the gas smell without that old gasket in place. I know there are many topics about gas smells so I don't want to revive that discussion here. I intend to update all the fuel system hoses soon.

Thanks for your help.

Mark

That's exactly the same thing I did. Works great.
