This could be a grounding issue too, clean the connection at the sender.
Or the sender could be sticking.
You may be able to fix that by cleaning it or soaking it in carb. cleaner.
Be super careful if you decide to take it apart, the tiny wire inside is easy to snap. _________________ How to Post Photos

You need the front and rear hanger brackets for that radio. Man those soft covers were super hard to find 10 years ago . Now, shit out of luck I guess. I bet something nice could be made from vinyl or leather.

Thanks. I found one of the front brackets in the classifieds. I'm gessing I can rig up a rear since it would be hidden anyways if I can't find one.. I was wondering how that worked. Bracket in the radio shafts and the two screws under the dash, then the soft cover attaches to the radio itself?
Mario in Germany has repop plastic underdash boxes, I hate to order just that from him, sooooo...... Should my air cleaner hose thing have 4 ribs, or two?
side note, thanks guys for all the help. I've never had this early of a car, and never this nice so I want to do right by it. The radio I got is actually more 1966 than 63, but I'm going to take the approach of what I would do if I got tired of not having a radio in the car in 1966 LOL
I should probably make a thread specifically for this car. Not a build thread, obviously, but maybe a documentation thread. Or a web page or blog or something, which I am not actually very good at...

All of the early/early (pre 64) cars I've seen have a 4 rib boot.
I didn't find anything in my book about a date when the part changed from 311 129 695 A (4 rib) to 311 129 695 B (3 rib) - maybe someone with the refinements books can chime in with a date. |

Where do you think all those brackets came from in the pic above
The soft cover attaches in the back with the screws over the top of the bracket. Then two hole in the fire wall to hold the bracket.
Yes earlies run four rib boots, don't lose that one! _________________

Thanks.
What horn should be in my July '63? I know I know, no one will ever see it, but I need a new horn anyways...
Couple things I've done. Oil Change (yay!) Front turn signal was wired backwards, so it would blink, but dimmer than the running light. Fixed that, all blinky worky now. I got the horn to work, but it's worse than anemic. I think it's a 12v horn.
Oh, and when I was working on the horn, the gas gauge would shoot up to half a tank. So thats gotta be ground related. Like everywhere else, it got way cold this week, so I'm not doing much... |

You might need to take the horn apart and clean the contacts but here's the horn in my '63:
Not the best pic but that's all I could find. _________________ How to Post Photos

Thanks Ev. Mine doesn't look like that, the terminals come straight out of the back, and no markings. It doesn't look like there is a way to open it |

So, What all do I need? I know I'll need the actual underdash housing thing. Mario has reproductions that I guess I can use if I can't find the correct original one. |
Mine came with a plastic one that disintergrated when whe took the radio out.
But i found this steel one at a friends place kicking around in some T3 parts cars, maybe an aftermarket unit?
not a good picture, i would have to dig it out of my parts stash for a real picture. I powder coated it and then didn't end up using the stock radio.

Very nice Aaron. Beautiful looking pan and suspension parts. That notch is going to look beautiful when you're done. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

I don't know if I'd call it a garage, but Aaron had that "car room" built when he renovated the house. I think he said he built it just to keep his Panel van and Notch stored inside.
It looks like it could use a couple more lights though. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

There are two in the photo and one is not lit. I bet it's this way for 'dramatic effect' since black doesn't tend to photograph well.
That is one sweet space for assembling a car, I must say... |
