what I think:
311-609-237 till 10/62 - and If I remember that goes along with the wheel cylinder change
311-609-237A 11/62 until the 64 change
but I see people including ISP West all over the place with their numbers. ISP west says 311-609-237 to chassis 221974, Mines 0205179.

#7 here
311-609-237 until 1964
311-609-237A are some other special shoes with linings if you are having brake problems
(This is what it says in section B-8 above, section B-8 is the Brake troubleshooting section) |
thank you kind sir, So A or no A, either should work. I found some A's at a decent price for name brand (Mintex). I liked Mintex on my Porsche |
Ok, I thought rears would be easy...
Which ones are correct?
B and C and the difference is the material again?
is there an online copy of that bulletin?

My shop books don't have a section B-17
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/type3_parts_book/
says part # 311 609 537B above |
ahhh, your book must be a little newer than the one on the 1500club site
311 609 537 B Brake shoe 45, rear with lining
from Ch. No. 76300 to 221 974
thank you again _________________ Stop dead photo links! Post your photos to The Samba Gallery! |

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this. But I noticed a bit of detail in one of my brochures "All about the Volkswagen 1500".
Then I was looking at this one:
What is the second one? Can some one please school me on the carpet detail here? Is there anyway to get the detail from the first photo? I'm trying to figure out the carpet on my 63' notch. It's almost all gone but the 4 ripped piece on one side is still there. I'd love to be able to have this detail! |
The top picture shows the correct heater vent for 1961-65 Type 3s. The bottom picture appears to be carpet for a later Type 3. |
"It was a nice car, except for those incorrect carpet vent openings and the non-gold fan shroud" said no one ever. |
The issue with the heater vent opening is that the size, shape and location of the later vents isn't the same as the earlier ones. It's not about "authenticity" so much as functionality. _________________ 5/62 343

Sorry, but these are the details that make a nice car into a fantastic car. I agree with the OP's concerns. |
So also, what is the binding on the edge of the carpet? Is it vinyl or is it thread? Thanks Tram for the support! _________________ - Chris

I'm not sure if the early TMI carpet kits have Square openings now, but this kit was 10+ years old when I installed it. It has square openings.

Tuned the '62 today and adjusted the brakes, and took it for a 25-mile spin. Drives and stops better now.
Ready for next weekend! |
Looks Great Scott! I like yellow, it would be a lot less trouble than black!
Have fun next weekend. _________________ Tom Reay

Scott...deep, deep down you know Pacific Blue's in your 'color wheel'...just go with it...
Seriously, though...Anthracite is an outstanding color. I don't think you can go wrong with it on any Ghia. Would you go with a Pearl White roof? |

I hear that! Pedro's recent progress and parts requests have been an inspiration.
Pedro caused me to finally figure out exactly which parts are going back on my car, and exactly what other parts I still need to source or restore. Or, sell.
His original Type 34 rocker trim restoration, for example, was very enlightening and mine are just about ready to go out for anodizing.
Yeah...he'll have his done before mine. |

Wadda want? Speed or accuracy?
Or in Pedro's case, both. _________________ Tom Reay
