I wanted to follow up on my Tire Opinions post from a few months ago.
I finally got the nicely powder coated Type 3 wheels and they look great.
After looking at all the suggested tires and looking more closely at my notchbacks tires and noticing that only the spare is a Continental and its running tires are different, I think I finally made a decision.
The Coker 165-R15 BF Goodwrench whitewall is the one I like.
This tire's white wall stripe is close to the wheel and I like that look over the whitewall being more in the center.
Here is a link to the tires I think I am going to get.

I went with these for my Squareback. I really like them.

Not me, I swear... Although I would love the Fat Aluminum Trim from the front windshield. It appears to have the Wheels & Brakes changed out to '64 or later. Early pin wheel brakes are hard to come by.
That so-called "Gulf-Blue" Variant looks beautiful... Does it have the S&P Interior? Also, that huge passenger side mirror looks so "Phat-Chick-ish". _________________ "And now, in the interest of equal time, here is a message from the National Institute of Pancakes: It reads, and I quote, "Fuck waffles." The Salt & Pepper material was replaced with some other material that was sort of S&P looking but not correct. _________________ How to Post Photos

I'm glad to see that you got to pick up the square. Is the gulf blue square the one you sold a couple months back? _________________ '68 Lotus White T34 automatic sunroof

All numbers matching motor, transmission, and beam ..and as bad as the car might look to some it's actually a really really dry car from Montana
And four out of five rims are og paint and dated 2/63
I personally have looked a long long time for an early (big button)Ruby Red squareback and for me personally this is the only one I have ever seen in person or otherwise ... of course I'm sure there are more out there that I just haven't seen in person or in pictures but I'm pretty sure there's not many
The same is true IMO about early Birch Green sunroof Notch's ..nice car by the way _________________ Wow look at that THAT'S A "SHOW CAR"!!

So this seems like the right place to ask this question. I just picked up a 62 notch and am trying to decide if I should rebuild the 1500 or go with something bigger. Looking for any advice or opinions. I have a bug with a 1641 and it moves pretty well. I'm new to type 3s and 1500s and I'm curious if I rebuild the 1500 if it has any get up and go? Thanks in advance for any advice or opinions

According to original specs, the 1500 single side draft had a cruising speed of 125 km/h which is 78 MPH. You could fit 1600 pistons and cylinders to your original engine and ream the carburetor jets to the next size and likely cruise at 80-84 MPH.
You can do the 1600 conversion easily and keep it all looking stock. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

I have been dinking with these cars for a day or 2. There's actually a ton of info in the Technical section here on the site. Since the '61/2 owner's manuals are in German, and I figured maybe you don't speak the language, I just posted the info for you.
Pretty much anyone that is going to tell you that the Type 3 is "inadequate" in its original form either never drove one that ran right, or they should be driving a 930 or 300SEL 6,3, LOL.
I'm going to keep harping at you to keep it stock... because it's an early '62. These don't grow on trees. Sure, it's going to be as expensive and frustrating as hell for you to be anal about doing it right, but you can either have a custom early car that nobody wants to buy for the exact same reasons you went custom- or you can have a bitchin' stock original that's still lots of fun... and just as much 401K as car, if you get my drift. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни!
