|
|
I'm starting to think insurance for my FG dune buggy. What companies have you guys had luck with insuring Buggies? I've always just intended on insuring it as a '71 beetle if necessary, but I'd like to insure it properly. Ive shopped around a couple collector and kit car companies, but most of them have a mileage limit, like 2500 mliles, no where near what I intend to drive annually.
What have some of you come up with? _________________ 2012 Passat TDI SE

Wow very Helpful! Why not keep your smartass coments to your self.
Now for some help. Have you seen Dune-buggy.com? I believe I have seen this discussed befor. Run a search on Buggytalk over there. If all else fails, call your current agent and tell them what is up and see if they can or know some one that can insure you.

Just be sure to tell your agent exactly what it is. If you insure it as a Beetle and have a claim, they may not pay being it isn't really a Beetle. _________________ Gary

He's my brother and I tell him all the time to get a Baja. He knows I was playing. Hence the wink. There's no need to be a jerk. It's idiots who try to put people down who take the joy out of forums like this. _________________ 2001 Jetta 1.9 TDI

Yeah, been there for a while, as well as dunebuggy.com, and mad buggies.com
I know how to search. Problem is, I was hoping to get some specific answers, like, Harleysvile will, State farm won't, Progressive won't. My agent is having a little trouble, and he is very good about coverage and claims. I tell him what happened, he tells me how to report it kind of guy. He needs a finished car to present to his companies, but I don't want to build this thing then be screwed. Getting a beetle insured is no problem. Getting the VW beetle chassis registered in Maryland is no problem, but I'm looking for some members here that are willing to give me their actual solutions. I'm 38, married with a clean record( And Humongo's brother for what it's worth!!). I was hoping to get an answer, that's all. I guess we can still register it in Alabama, They don't require insurance do they? _________________ 2012 Passat TDI SE

I wasnt trying to be a Jerk. Every now and then, there is a litle flame war here. alot of folks dont care for Baja's because "We butcher classic VW's". Im sorry if I came off as a Jerk. I want trying to be. |

So does your buggy have a Beetle VIN or a builders VIN? If your agent can write with Grange Mutual, they will or would insure sandrails for street use. _________________ Gary

No I have a fiberglass buggy body on a '71 full beetle pan, not a sand rail. I have a title for the '71 chassis. I know I can just insure a '71 beetle, but if anything happens to it, I'm screwed. It doesn't muck matter with Maryland DMV, I'm registering a '71 beetle, which is pre emissions and old enough it doesn't have to pass a safety inspection.
From the limited discussions I've had with my agent, he's pretty sure I'll have to go to an agreed value policy to insure it as a dune buggy, he just needs a comleted car for the companies he deals with. I'll check into grange. How are their rates? _________________ 2012 Passat TDI SE

I guess what I was getting at John is that if Grange will insure a sandrail, a fiberglass buggy shouldn't be a problem either.
Good luck....... _________________ Gary
