I have a damaged clutch cable and ordered a replacement part. It seems the diameter of the thread is larger than my old cable. So the 14mm nut doesn’t fit. Does anyone know which thread size is correct for a 1950 model and has it changed until 1960? My cable is for “all VW T1 until 1960}. It’s this cable: https://www.paruzzi.com/uk/volkswagen/bumpers-(exc...ystem/901/

Okay, strange that my supplier sold this as a cable that fits all <1960 models. I noticed that the package also mentions another cable length as the website. The website states a length of 2268mm, but the package itself shows 2190mm. Searching the website shows that 2268 is the correct length, so I guess the shipped me the wrong cables Sad

VW Parts book quotes 2268mm as correct for your vehicle with 6mm thread for adjuster.

Which parts book do you have? Mine only lists the following:

It's the spare parts list from September 1950.

PS: Greatly appreciate your answers! Helps a lot to get this right!

6mm cable/nut was replaced with the 7mm in 1964 and then the 6mm was discontinued.

It was made stonger.

Does anyone know where I can get a cable that is using the 6mm thread? I have sourced cables from three different manufacturers. All of them specify that it's a cable for a <1960 beetle, but all of them use a 7mm thread. I will install it for now, so I can drive again. But I do want to have the original cable and use the double nut...

There are available douple nuts in 7mm (I have them if you can't find anywhere). The early 6mm cable is very rare to find.

Okay, that's a shame because my car still had the correct 6MM cable and nuts. Always fails bad to replace it with something that's not original Sad

The nut can also be sourced from https://www.cox-shop.de/epages/62308954.sf/de_DE/?ObjectPath=/Shops/62308954/Products/46-586. I guess it's 7mm, because they only sell a 7mm cable. Strange choice to go to M7. It's not a common size. I also send Jacek an email. Maybe he knows if a 6mm cable can be sourced.

Thanks for your help!

Ask Cagero, not sure but it seems they have the 6mm and 7mm clutch cable.

Probably 6mm?

7mm

Thanks for much. I have send them an email and will post the answer here. Would be great to have an address for the original cable...

You can make the 6mm threads on the 7mm if you like.

We use the newer, more available cable and it works fine - the original is difficult to find - life is too short to be overly concerned, about such things - Lao Tzu suggests > ' just 'go with the flow' - z
