Clown cars or not, a lone Barny transporting FOUR cars is quite a picture of what they can do!!! |
First right or left turn over five mph and that bitch is going over on it's side! Very cool photo, but must have been scary to drive...

Segregation looks to be in affect back then.
Love the buses but hate the ignorance that appears to come threw in this picture. |
That is the first thing I noticed also when I saw this shot. The persons of color were most likely told/asked to crouch down in front of the standing white guys for the photo. Kinda subtle, but there all the same. A snap shot of some cool Buses, but also of what was going on in that area at the time. Love the Buses! |
Interesting perspective. It's a better composition and pretty normal for some people to stand and some people to crouch in a photo like this. I noticed the white guys are also lined up short to tall.
Realistically of course the Black guys were probably of a lower "class" at this time, especially in Texas. My guess is the White guys work the sales counter and the Black guys are doing deliveries and/or working in the back room.
I was mostly looking at the Buses.
I noticed the Bus on the right has what be an NOS bumper on the rear, maybe they had to replace it? It's not 2-tone.
Anyway.... it's a cool photo. I wonder if that building is still there. _________________ How to Post Photos

Frankly I didn't notice it until it was pointed out. I guess I don't look for any possible evidence of segregation in a historical photo. It was pretty much a given in Texas in 1960 and the photo records that.
Even in modern photos you'll see people grouped by race. Whether we like it or not people tend to associate with people who have their own characteristics.
It is a sign of progress that simply displaying this photo has some people up in arms!
No luck in locating the building on Google Street view. the address, 2221 East Avenue in Austin, doesn't exist which makes me thing that the name of the avenue was omitted. |

Each of those microcars weighed 167kg or 370 pounds. Two of them are quite a bit more than the 100kg that my VW roof rack was rated to carry!
The trailer appears to use VW wheels as well! |

Regarding the pic of the florist in Texas, I think its ironic that the guy from Colorado (curtis4085) sees race segregation and the guy from Arizona (Everett) sees buses. Just teasing. (I'll be retiring to the 'Racist-Desert-Wasteland Capital of the World' in about a year)
And yeah yeah, I know, my first post...I'm shutting the hell up now. |

I have come to the conclusion after years and years of seeing that dental supply bus picture kicking around on line, that the person who logoed that bus was the same person who logoed my Coram Rug Work Bus,
Both buses are from Long Island, probably same year, and same era, the writing under the belt line, and off white color paint is identical in both buses. |

Did Coca Cola actually have buses logoed like this model, or is it just a nostalgia toy?

I'm betting on nostalgic embellishment. _________________ nothing |

Betcha' it's authorized but not an actuality. They just jumped on the Paisley Bandwagen using the VW bus wave of fame.
Coca Cola is a very guarded trademark. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway logo is the most protected. |

So, was this guy a sign painter and a dust control guy at the same time? Or are these two layers of paint and logos? _________________ nothing |

No idea. My wife and son just passed them on the interstate. Does look like several layers of paint though. |

Ahhh, OK. Sure looks like it was a turkis panel with logos, then painted gold over black for the next round of logos. I wonder if the owner is on the samba? Maybe he could shed more light on the subject. _________________ nothing |

True. I missed that. Guess I was focused on the logo selection. _________________ nothing |
