My 66 double door has minor rust up front. In these pics you can see it - not too bad really but there are some pinholes that show up best in the second picture. What should I do to fix this? Does this warrant a repair panel????

POR-15 in silver contains aluminum and they claim that if you back the pin holes with some tape and paint over the rusted area with the POR-15 silver it will fill up and seal up the pin holes. Then you can paint over it or fill and smooth.
I used the POR-15 black on my Beetle pan (I had no pin holes) and the stuff is indestructible, and went on very easily, quite impressive stuff. _________________ Kimberly

thanks guys - time to go shopping. I'd rather not cut the floor - I'll try the metal filler and see how it goes. Where do I have to go to get Por 15? Will my paint store have it? _________________ Sanborn7

Auto paint store should have it. Also, maybe a full-line hardware store. They do have a web site and you can order on-line, if you need to. |

Just order the POR-15 from their website (www.por15.com). I always do and never a problem, sometimes they have special deals also. The are located in New Jersey and ship from there. _________________ Kimberly

ok, what i do is this. grind away the rust, coat it in fiber glass resin, allow to tack, then reinforce with fiber glass, then let is set up, then coat the whole floor board in rhino coat. but thats just me. _________________ Show me a man with a tattoo and I'll show you a man with an interesting past. ~Jack London

Once this filler/paint is used, how does the integrity of the pan/piece hold up compared to a replaced piece? _________________ '65 bug

stan i had the same problem. i wire brushed the floor, used jb weld to fill the small pits...(works great but let it dry, sanded it smooth, then i applied a coating called rust bullet. dude, this stuff is the shit! works great, floors are solid. did the whole front floor in my s/c and plan on coating the whole t chest area and gas tank area. check it out at www.rustbullet.com cheaper and easier to apply than por-15 |
