Mine does and its a PIA. I've tried shaving the halves down in order to get a tighter fit but it still rotates when I engage the turn signal switch. Are there any tips that you all have?

do you have the little silver half round piece that goes in there? I usually wedge a small piece of metal in between the silver thingie and the column and that causes it to bind when you tighten it down. |

1 of mine has duct tape. another has a bullet dent on the clamp side (the red single, Lind). 2 others have pieces of cardboard wedged in there to shim it up.
None of them slip or rotate |

Man I was all set to say take the two halves and sand a bit off of each!
That fixed mine and I was able to take the vintage 1968 piece of cardboard out and auction it on eBay!
Sorry it didn't work for you. Did you take enough metal off? Screws tight and not stripped?
Want to bid on my old piece of cardboard?

One of the best things to have lying around is an old bicycle innertube. I always have them around for different uses. This is a good example.
Cut a section to wrap around the column where the switch mounts. Tighten the switch on there good and it won't move anymore. Cheap and easy.
If you don't have any old tubes, go to bicylcle shop and ask for a few they've replaced. They've always got 'em in the trash can for free. |

ok everyone here is the tip of all tips for this. the tape/cardboard works ok for a little while till the switch rubs through them. if you want a good repair that will last, take a soda/beer car and cut a strip out of it, wrap it around and put a little piece of tape to hold it, put your switch back on and bam.... no more movement and it will never wear back down. some may need two strips. _________________ flossin, tossin, dippin, and trippin |

mine has electrical tape. it works great in the morning or night, but during the day when it warms up it moves around. I'm going to try the innertube or the aluminum can trick mentioned in a couple posts. |

I shimmed mine with alluminum can. dosent move but dosent cancel right. Cancels the turn randomly.
Hijack: are those cancel tabs supposed to be straight out? Mine are a bit crooked and dont cancel right, especially with a right hand turn. if I bend it straight will it work better?? whats the best way to fix it without breaking the switch? |

Every single bus i've owned has had that problem. I once used a radiator hose clamp up snug against the bottom of the signal housing to fix the problem. It looked like shit but it worked. Would a little dab of locktite work on something like this? |

If you look close at the place where the silver half circle thing fits into the housing you will usually see that it has worn the edges of the housing where it sits. I have put a very small piece of wire over the worn spot on both sides before putting the silver half circle in and it works like new. The problem with tape here in the heat is it gets sticky and squishy and acts like lubricate for the switch to turn. Using the method above makes sure you have maximum metal to metal surface area, similar to when the switch was new. _________________ Richard

Mine has been driving me nuts, too. I'm gonna give the inner tube a try. _________________ In 1966 Volkswagen pinched my loaf.

I also thought I was the only one who had this problem!! A good fix akin to the inner tube thing is one of those big rubberbands that you get off asparagus in the grocery store. No adhesive, no cutting of beer can. I can't say it'll last a lifetime but what the heck, I like asparagus anyway. _________________ Elaine |
