| The Friday after my 18th birthday I drove from a city called Woodstock, GA up to Chattanooga, TN to pick up my first bus, 71' Bay. When I showed up and first spotted her I could not stop smiling. Very decent paint, white and green two-tone, rustless you could say. The last owner really took care of her. My test drive was more than I expected, it slid into each gear, and the engine was like new (and after I did a compression check that weekend I discovered it was very recently rebuilt!) The guy who owned it was friends with some guy who was head of a club chapter in the area, so he showed up and we talked for probably 45 min or so. Anyways, he went on about the VW disease and the culture, "There's nothing else like it." He told me the disease will get you, "Worse than dope." Damn, I thought. Working on these things is more of a mind set than getting a little high. These must be fantastic cars, I thought to myself. So, I decided she was the one, and I paid my $2500 for a car I plan to keep forever, hopped on I-75 and headed south in my new VW Bus! Well, about 2 minutes after being on the freeway, I hear a frantic sonding horn, " BEEP BEEP, BEEPBEEPBEEP, BEEP" and as I turn my head to my left, I see another longer haired fella, like myself, giving me the peace sign from the drivers seat of his Westy Vanagon. I don't think I ever stopped smiling on that ride home and I will never forget that day I bought my very first VW Bus. |

That's awesome! I love it when I see other VWs on the road while driving my bug. Definitely a great feeling. _________________ VW-less right now...looking

Any time I see another vw on the road (older on, that is) I wave. Altho around here, the Vanagons seem not to wave to us Aircooled fanatics... at least the watercooled ones don't. But it's like getting welcomed into this huge hapy family to own a VW. But, as in every family, there are a number of sour grapes... _________________ Beware of Drive-By Bayonetteings!!
