at this time i have a pretty much stock 1600 in my 17 SB and decided to put on a phat boy exhaust, i also have a pair of dellorto 40's and was wondering on some suggestions on venturis, would 34 be to big or could i get away with using it until i finish my new motor.

If you can borrow larger vents then experiment. If you must purchase them I'd leave the 40 dells in its original state. The extra possible cfm "may not" benefit due to the stock flow of your 1600 heads.

Although vents do not cost a fortune it still wont be a huge gain in performance. I'd rather invest $$ in a pertronix 1847a or something that'll benefit your new engine.

ok, i guess i can stick with the ones that are in there than,
now to switch things up, how should i adjust the plungers.
