I was 17 in 1995 when I got my first car.... 1965 Beetle for $500. Ran & drove just fine (never mind that the brakes went out on the way home Very Happy ). Minimal rust (just the battery area). I didn't know how lucky I was, but I loved her!

That's how all this madness began!

Within in a year I traded a "spare" engine for this one, and had it running in short order.

1974 412. It was red. We (dad mostly) completely restored the body, interior amd engine. Swapped out the standard tranny for an automatic.
I drove it for 4 years until I rearended someone. That was the end of that one. Gotta dig up some pics next time I visit the folks.

I was raised in France so I didn't get a licence before I was 18, though I did start driving before that. My first car was a Peugeot 104 just like this one :

I was 16 in 1964 ... and I had a 1961 Beetle ... all 40HP and almost no brakes. That's OK because the 40 HP was SO SLOW ...

It was great on gas ( 29 cents a gallon ) and my girl friend ( future wife ) and I cruised around and went to the beach A LOT.

Cool

We are not allowed to drive car before 18 in France.
But you can drive farm tractors on private land.
So, for me
Someca SOM35
Renault 22D
Monocylinder Lanz

And with a 5 000 pounds trailer, on slopes, it's not picnic
