I was 17 in 1995 when I got my first car.... 1965 Beetle for $500. Ran & drove just fine (never mind that the brakes went out on the way home ). Minimal rust (just the battery area). I didn't know how lucky I was, but I loved her!
That's how all this madness began!
Within in a year I traded a "spare" engine for this one, and had it running in short order.
"Lovey" and "Hugger" per the license plates. |

1974 412. It was red. We (dad mostly) completely restored the body, interior amd engine. Swapped out the standard tranny for an automatic.
I drove it for 4 years until I rearended someone. That was the end of that one. Gotta dig up some pics next time I visit the folks. _________________ What can we build for you?

I was raised in France so I didn't get a licence before I was 18, though I did start driving before that. My first car was a Peugeot 104 just like this one : _________________ 89 manual Vanagon GL Wesfalia |

I was 16 in 1964 ... and I had a 1961 Beetle ... all 40HP and almost no brakes. That's OK because the 40 HP was SO SLOW ...
It was great on gas ( 29 cents a gallon ) and my girl friend ( future wife ) and I cruised around and went to the beach A LOT.

We are not allowed to drive car before 18 in France.
But you can drive farm tractors on private land.
So, for me
Someca SOM35
Renault 22D
Monocylinder Lanz
And with a 5 000 pounds trailer, on slopes, it's not picnic
