I"m so jealous of you guys who were 16 in the late 60's and early 70's... you drove some of the best cars ever, and for dirt cheap! my dad's first car he restored before getting his liscense... a 1957 Chevy Belair, 2dr, convertable. He totaled it a couple years later on a nova that decided to back up on a highway on ramp. I couldn't even dream of owning such a car...
But for me all I got was my mom's 1987 Ford Escort wagon. My brother and I would drag race grannies driving their towncars on Rt. 50 (highway running thru smalltown Easton Maryland). It was always a close race, and they didn't even know they were racing us! I'm vowing to help my kids have an amazing ride (ie, 60's muscle, or something vintage and carberator'd) when they turn 16 (but that's many moons from now... I'm not even married yet!)

my uncle told me shit like that, he bought a 49 chevy, good paint, tires, some wear in the seats but they still weren't bad at all, good running engine 15 BUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!! and then later bought a 50 chevy fastback quite some time before he went to nam for i believe 80 dollars? either he was lucky or a 80 bucks=1000 or 2 back in 1958-62 i wanna say, not too sure on the year.

step-dad and i found a nice 1966 mustang with an inline 6 (gotta love em) when i was 15 and spent a year restoring it, this was in 1993, so it would be ready by the time i was 16.

ummm we never called a 1990 golf a rabbit... they stopped making "rabbits" in 1984.... less those 20th anniversary GTI's with the rabbit logos on them... which i still consider a golf... an A1 golf is the only thing called a rabbit.

First drive in a '67 deluxe type 2.

First own car '65 Fiat 850 Sedan.

When I finally drove that into the ground, transffered the 847cc motor and tranny into a '60 Fiat 600 with suicide doors. Very Happy

That was one really fun car to drive! Razz

I was driving a 90s (I think it was 93?) Mazda MPV...YUCK!! I hated that thing, but that's what the parents had.

Unfortunately, I didn't get my first car, a 66 Bug, until I was 17.

Either an '88 Mazda 323 or '89 Chevy S10 4x4... whichever was available at the time.

55 Chevy Pickup. Straight six, fat tires and mags, tonnou (sp) cover, and a paint job that my great uncle put on with a broom and roller. I learned how to drive with 3 on the tree and a starter on the floor. God damn I miss that car.
