Just bought new floor pans for my 75 beetle. Is the primer on these a quality primer thats good enough to just paint right over with enamel,or should i strip them to bare metal and coat with por 15 to eliminate future rusting? |

Depends on the manufacturer of the pans...most of the black pans, the primer is el cheapo... use a screw driver and scratch one, if it scrathes real easy then a rag soaked in laquer thinner will probably wipe the stuff right off. Then use I use a good epoxy primer on them and have tried a variety of coatings... I'm really liking the bedliner stuff on my pan jobs these days... |

I would not trust them. I would paint and use the bedliner for sound insulation. Make sure you do both sides. Good luck. |

i agree with the above posts. get rid of that primer.
a big part of getting a good result is preparation. make sure all that cheap crap is off, epoxy prime and paint.
good luck. |

Paint them with POR15 and be done with it.
I'd strip them first and paint them. That way there's less to do after they've been weld in. _________________ Glenn

absolutely.
you may want to coat the insides of the channels aswell. i will be doing the same soon, and i will either waxoyl the inside or paint in there. |

i picked up a new heater channel for my super beetle at a swap meet .
it had been sitting awhile and was full of surface rust (that lowered the price!) . i drilled out the spot welds and removed the bottom plate , derusted the inside and painted it . at the factory they painted only the
exterior leaving the interior unprotected . it was made by veng. |
