I really think it's an original panel, but they used to cover both windows, isn't it?
What do you think? I think's a nice project!!

For the right price it could be a nice project. How's the rust? Are the windows painted or is that metal? _________________ Type 1 - '68, '74

No, the rust is very superficial. The car spent his life in a very dry place, and it shows. The motor works and the car runs. The windows are metallic, I think the car run out the factory as is.
If we found a good price the car can be mine soon!!

Those rear panels appear to be metal. The only panel type 3's that I have seen have had all the rear side windows as panels. I suppose that it could have been ordered that way, or perhaps someone added the glass windows? _________________ OGST

Closer look. My other 64, 1500S had a nice union between the dashboard and the doors, but this one does not, could it be because it's a N model????

I'm pretty sure they had Panel Squarebacks where only the back windows were metal.
It does looks like an N model from the photos - no clock, no passenger door lock, etc.
Is there a rubber mat over the engine or is it some kind of platform?
I thought the Panel Squarebacks didn't have back seats? _________________ How to Post Photos

Maybe it has a back seat because it's not a full panel?? _________________ Type 1 - '68, '74

yes, there was a regular rubber mat over the engine.
and also yes this one have a seat, with a different material from the front seats (a rugged plastic), but it was completely normal. |

Is that thing in Spain? The license plate is weird (all 4's???) and doesn't follow the format AA-nnnnn where AA is whatever the prefix for the province was and nnnnn represents a squence number (until 99999, when it becomes AA-nnnn-BB, where BB represents a letter sequence)
Ok, why do I know about Spanish license plates? I was born there.
I'd never seen an aircooled VW in Spain- the car of choice of the era was usually a SEAT 600 or 850 (a license built Fiat of the era- this is before VW bought them) or a Renault. Very odd, I'd say. _________________ Current cars:

It appears to me that the license plate has been photoshopped to protect the innocent. _________________ OGST

That car is badass.
Pull out that dent in the drivers rear quarterpanel, buff out the paint, and you're golden.
Good find! |

Someone in the past questioned the back window only pannel. With VW I think all things were possible, not normal, but possible. Its definatly looks "real". If you look close it apears to have a gasket between the plate and frame. It has all the N stuf too. Nacho see if it has a prop rod for the front hood. The rear dosnt apear to have a prop rod, so it answers a N question-Do N squares have a prop rod rear door-No. Very cool. I want one! _________________

Per Lindgren of Sweden said a while back that his parents had a panel van when he was a child. His father bought it new, and replaced the metal panels with glass, and put in a back seat. It was a cheaper way to buy a squareback, becuase it was still considered a truck. _________________ Society is like stew. Pimppride, the simulated upper door trim was pretty cool. I had a 64 S model before and the trim was there. I dont know if the simulation is a N thing.
The license plate was photochopped, sorry for that! but I tell you, is M-4xx.xxx with no letter (M for Madrid, and without letter because in the early days, until they reach 999.999 cars, no letter was needed). Its the original license, also a plus!
Sorry all you guys for my english, I dont practice that much...
And thank you all for your inputs. Whenever I own the car I'll let you know because I'll need a little help from all of you.
the motor, single carb.
1800 kms?? hard to believe...

Did anyone else notice that the back panels don't have the louvers like most panel vans? Great find, Nacho. _________________ '68 Lotus White T34 automatic sunroof

I noticed that, maybe because it only has a single window?
I was wondering if the middle window should be popouts? Maybe not on an N model... In any case, I noticed they have no chrome on the rubber. _________________ How to Post Photos

I have seen pics of one other single window panel and it didnt have vents either. I wonder if it was more like a kombi than a delivery. Meant for both people transport as well as minor hauling. I cant find pics of that other single window. The one in Japan looks more like it was a panel with an added window. _________________ Frank
