After sitting in my yard for years, isn't it time (at least out of respect) to get your truck "Old Blue" back on the road? With out him no adventure, no SST-1. You don't need to do a Glide King / funky truck restoration (even though it would be nice) but at least get him on the ground and running well. I am sure you'll get help. There a lot of talented SSTers out there. I'm game.

Count me in. I have a 40hp and a bunch of 6V electrical to donate if useful. |
I gave Brian a buttload of 40hp parts a few years back myself.
When could we expect Christopher on the SST? That would mean no garage in Willits of course but... _________________ Your Vanagon sucks, Stop waving at me.

Let's put the truck back together for Brian to drive in '15, and then if he no-shows again, we'll raffle it off between those who rebuilt it.

Thanks again Crofty, but don't forget, when the time comes to get the 62 back on-line, I'll have those parts and then some should you need them.
Regarding engines though, I'm so far from putting power to the rear wheels with Old Blue, it's kind of a moot point. On the other hand, thanks to Eej worrying me that anyone besides me might do work to him, my next move will be locking him up in my Hangar! At least that will be a step in the right direction. I appreciate the motivation you guys. He's a good truck but I need to take the repairs on him to the next level and then some. |

There's nothing wrong with that truck that a Tittypink paint job and a set of tubbed 20's wouldn't fix! _________________ 60 Ghia

Hey, how about the Post-Shasta Cold Creek Inn Damage Report? How did we do this year? Pictures looked promising, with cardboard under many buses. Who was the last to leave? What was the final report card? Anyone? |

Wow. Well, if all the fallout there is this year is computational pussy volume theory, I'd say we have a success on our hands! Eej the others who helped again this year, thanks for all your hard work. |

Hard to read that post Mr. Eejermon, yes this year was different than most, mainly no stinking SNOW! Trust me the breakdowns this year sucked! They cost us a lot of time, headaches, and the all mighty dollar bill too. Yes the trip has changed over the years, some things good some things bad. "The trip is what you make of it" is a great line that always comes to heart for me. As for me and this trip I think it needs a different view, some of us from the North would love for you guys and gals to see the backroads down to Shasta. A new view maybe a new trip too. I'd like to see two pods with one goal Shasta. The Rampage Spot will always be The Rampage Spot. For next year I'm going to put together a route that goes South from Oregon to Shasta. Maybe even try to get the two pods of Buggy Vans to meet in the mountains before we get to Shasta.
Just my 2 cents, Mr. Armstrong
As for next year I'm in! |

Shasta has changed for sure. More people take more time. Adventure is still there and always will be. I like the idea of a approach from the north but that is just me. Break downs suck but we drive old buses and shit happens. This year was different but i had a great time just the same. I think a pod approach would be a good idea 5 to 10 bus pods? _________________

So much for putting the thread to sleep with Everett's reading sweet theory to us Sorry your trip didn't work out the best Eej, I know the people really make or break the trip. This next topic may have you reconsidering your angst however.
Mr. Armstrong, I still hold the patent on the North Face Assault concept! I tried to get a group of you crazies from the north to do one of those as far back as 2004, I'm sure you remember since you've been coming down to this thing for ten years. Really happy you see the logic of this idea now. To hell with driving 250 miles down south when you could be making use of that gas AND creating way more history and images for the enjoyment of the armchair crowd or those on the other side of the planet. The North Face Assault Contingent! Rock that program Mr. Armstrong! |

Success and popularity was your downfall.
If you're going to keep it open to public participation. Here is an idea to keep it special. Keep the future number of participants low by having a lottery to see who goes.
My two cents as a viewer from the side lines.
PS, love the videos and pictures! _________________ Prosit!

Really GREAT VIDEO! The music selection can really make or break any video, event, date, you name it. Old school surf music, the high speed GOPRO edits from location, to location, really hit the spot! The feeling the video gives with those tracks, the buses, etc, was the same feeling I remember from one of Charlie's post-OCTO parties where he had a surf band set up playing right in his garage, alongside the pizza, beer, and buses.
The other scenarios where side-lined drivers may have been bummed while waiting for one team to help OTHER teams, NEVER needs to be, as any one team of three buses should be enough to take any situation and handle it.
The team you were in was apparently very experienced, organized, methodical, and chose to avoid the Danger Routes that obviously gave up significant destruction this year. Were it not for the unfortunate faulty call of the driver (s) who sent most of the Hull Mt. Attackers on the 100 mile detour and retreat, the number of contingencies and mental challenges would not have been nearly so high.
Eejs comment that any drivers were actively beating on their equipment only to have it break, then sideline dozens of drivers -outside their team- for it, is amazing and should be a lesson for future review.
I've tried to create the perfect Three Bus Teams before, but the herd mentality is amazingly strong. Call me anything you want, but there is a reason Team Badfish's SST went so well this year, and why my SSTs always go well.
I will continue to run a tight fire team concept for my SSTs, and if I'm in a position to help others, I will. In metaphorical terms, just never forget what happens to the puddle after the beginning of the race...
