Lets get back to the topic at hand.
I have enjoyed reading the stories on this site written by Shasta Alum;
Surf City and Bad Dog.
It's very inspiring and a reminder that our boring, daily grind has nothing on these trippers.

Just don't get one from BFY. I made that mistake once. _________________ 9th Owner of a 1971 Tintop Westy

|
|
Alright so I have Bad Dog 1776 SP with full flow (currently just a recirc line from output to input) and a stock offset doghouse oil cooler. From the get go, the cooler leaked a little, not much, very little in fact, oil didn't lower in 4-5 200 mile trips. Then one afternoon pushing down a 6% pass the leak got worse, especially the driver side, after investigating, it looked like it was coming from the oil cooler. Replaced seals and back on the road, no relief, replaced oil cooler and offset bracket. Seemed to be all good, but one 200 mile trip and it looks to be back at it.
What is the best oil cooler to use, is the HD pump breaking my oil coolers? I would rather not have any hoses coming off the engine to keep engine pulls simple, but if I have to, I have to.
Who else has had similar issues, what did you do? Is there a brand of oil cooler that is better than another?
Anyone have a trick for pressure testing an oil cooler?
Found this guy, will be buying it soon, anyone know off hand which oil pump comes on the SST 1176 from Bad Dog?

A HD oil pump isn't going to make an oil cooler leak. are you using the right seals? Different cases require different sized seals.
I threaded the oil filter adapter on all of my buses as it makes getting it off much faster on engine pulls. Run a filter, it will help prolong the life of your engine. _________________ Your Vanagon sucks, Stop waving at me.
