if you're going to go that route you should really drop the trans in the rear to get close to zero degrees of camber (dove blue bus). this thing was a monster, I shouldnt have sold it.

Is the DB Bus the one that had the one piece tie rod? How well did that work? Is is something you would recommend for general off road travel or only extreme bashing? _________________ "My biggest worry is that when I die, my wife will sell all my parts for what I told her I paid for them"-Jon

the blue bus had two tie rods, but they were 4130 chrome-moly with big heims at each end.
I think the biggest handling advantage though was the shock setup we built (and the expensive bilsteins)

So, did you build a bus with a one-piece tie rod? Or sell them? I seem to remember seeing pics of that somewhere on this site and for some reason have associated your name with it.
Thanks for sharing your pics. While the setup you built looks simple, it is very deceiving. There is a quite a lot going on in those shots, especially the rear end. Maximum droop front and back. I bet it is a blast to wring out off road! Any other pics? _________________ "My biggest worry is that when I die, my wife will sell all my parts for what I told her I paid for them"-Jon

no, I havent done that and honestly it is not a good idea. having both wheels connected is a no no
here's the trans drop. I dropped the horns into the cradle so I wouldnt lose any ground clearance. Full 2" trans drop if I remember right.
2-1/2" lift spindles welded by the master, Cameron Johnson.
cutting brakes using two original mechanisms sharing a common pivot pin.
1700 stroker with 15 gal fuel cell

So, is it really necessary to raise your tranny and go BJ if you want to take it off road a little? _________________ Cheers & God Bless

no, throw some good all terrain tires on a stock bus and it will do amazing things with a competent driver.
but when you modify things you can do just that much more. I beat the hell out of that bus and took it places that a stock bus would not go. I also took it on a friends dirt bike track and jumped it.
It didn't have the nicest body or anything, so I would use the cutting brakes and trees to pivot around, negotiating very tight spaces.
here is Cameron's bus we dubbed the Swamp Thing!! it looked like it came out of a swamp when he got it and he put it on Super Swampers! It had the identical suspension/transmission setup as my blue bus. We built the two buses simultaneously.
