This is a repo one i have from about 1995.

Lids_2001 there was only 250x of those ever made on account of the letter type for C & O's!
Did anyone ever find out who repoped the standard Riverside Econo frames so the ave. Joe could have one from the dealership that started this aftermarket VW industry?
I think there only has been maybe 500 of the Riverside Economotors repoped frames made...maybe more soon? ? |
Consider me the guilty party!! I was the first to re-pop Econo frames back in 1995. I was 19 years old and working for Kymco on Harbor Blvd. in Costa Mesa. Those frames helped pay for my college......
There are WAAAAAAY more than 500 re-pop Econo frames out there. I sold about 450 of them just in 1995 alone. Then everybody and their mother started re-poping them. I know of at least six different production runs of 500-1000 each....each slightly different. I still have a few sets stashed away if anybody needs a pair. Just PM me..... |

I'll let you be the guilty one but you are wrong!
5/95 with the incorrect C & O's and only 250 of those..... _________________ Werksberg Products....Products that work!

Ask Danny Deacon of Kymco and Lenny of WCC. They'll tell you the real scoop. You were one Pomona behind me...... |

Oh yeah.....ALL of mine had the incorrect C & O's as well. Take your 250 number...times it by four...and then guess upwards from there. That is a good ballpark... |

KidV... (we should know each other as I use to sell to Jeff and Kymco for many years...) it's all good.
At lest the regular "Joe" can now also have these Econo license plate frames (without selling the first born kid) to HONOR the first dealership to make after market ACVW parts!
Without Econo Motors and the Vittones.....It's doughtfull all this great after market VW industry would be here today.
Then we all would be typing about Fiats, Ladas, Citrons or some other make of cars....
Stay tune for the New Year's release..... _________________ Werksberg Products....Products that work!

Yeah, I don't think we ever met..... but I sure found out who you were in a hurry. After clearing 5 figures at my first Pomona averaging over $50 each (big thanks to the Englishman who bought 100 of them for $50 each!!).... you then busted yours out and started to give them away for next to nothing. You definitely opened up a big can of reality check on my ass.
Maybe someday you can explain to me your pricing strategy over a beer or ten. Lets just say IMO you should have gone for the higher margin/lower volume route instead of the "lets blow them out at just over cost & flood the market" route. I have thought about your pricing strategy several times over the past 13 years and it still makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to me.
I remember Kymla talking about you sometimes. You are from Garden Grove, right?
It's all good.......no hard feelings. I have nothing but fond memories of the re-pop Econo frame days. When I dumped the pile of cash on the dinner table after that first Pomona and told my mom she didnt have to worry about helping me pay for my college anymore......I will never EVER forget that day. Priceless.... |

Well, I'm glad your wind fall Pomona Econo frame sale went to your education as I'm now a former (after 14 long years, thanks Arnold and your school cut backs...just send all the hands on tech / manufacturing jobs to China) GGROP Fiberglass, Composite and Plastics HS and adult jog training educator.
I have live in my shops for too many years (many friends used to call me Dan Tanner.... from the TV show) But I have to live and sleep with myself at nights.
And I have to pay my bills with the profits (little as it is...) for selling products to my dealers so they can pay their bills and serve the retial customers of this great industry!
The true HUNTERS can still find the real old Econo frames but now the reg. guys and girls can also get our re-poped frames for their everyday car and still have money left over for a dinner ....or two!
Happy Holidays! _________________ Werksberg Products....Products that work!

This is the only REAL econo frame without the ears
but see how the hole spacing is around the riverside is? No 45 degree angle on the frame, its squared off

what do you think? |
Man I saw so many of these things they were like candy from a broken pinata. I worked next door to Darrel Vittone for a couple of years at the world famous Mc Peaks Painting.(The owner painted the inch pincher, lightening bug, Dinos Dinosourus and many of these he had somthing to do with desiging the logos and artwork) Joe Vittone used to come by every once and a while. They bought them in thousand lots. I saw them change over the years. I dont really remember when he sold to the auto group. Might have been while i was working there. I saw econo motors then I think the latest was just econo. Older ones said motors from what I remember. I lived right near there when I was a kid clearly remember the VW on the big platform. Mc Peak designed the Baja 500. They put it on the bottom of the door panels from fender to fender in black reversed letters. Lots of fun guys keep collecting... _________________ Owned Countless VWs over the last 35 years.

Looking for the ones that have economotors. Either front mount or rear mount. Front mounts are super rare.
