I need to have a few peices sand blasted and the guy at the blaster also talked about walnut shells for blasting. Pro's and con's? He was worried the hood might warp under sand blasting, but said it prolly won't.

one negative thing i've heard about walnut shell is that it can leave an oily residue..i would imagine there is some step you could do to remove the residue, just make sure to add it to the list of prep steps before you spray primer...

walnut shells are a good media for removing paint and filler, without creating heat. you can sandblast vw sheetmetal, but try and find someone that has blasted a vw before. the metal is thinner than most cars and a large surface, like a hood or bus panel, can warp from the heat of the sand.

i got my 56 walnut shelled and then sandblasted and it turned out great. took it home and laid on epoxy primer and it's fine.

sandblasting after walnut shelling removes rust and gives the metal a "tooth" surface that the pimer/epoxy will take to.
