I was wondering if anyone was running this same set up or close. I'm wanting to buy an Airkewld beam, but before I pull the trigger I'd like to hear from some people with a similar setup. Thanks for the help

I don't have the setup yet. I am also looking to purchase an airkewld 4" narrowed adjustable beam after the beginning of the year. I am going to run the stock wheels though.

On airkewlds site they show "build sheets" of other people's cars. It shows a pic of the car and tells what the person installed on it. You could try looking there if you haven't already.

Plenty of info on Airkewl set-ups if you search the Ghia Forum...this just one example "straight from the horse's mouth": http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=6221081#6221081

Hello, just wondering if anyone knows if a 165r15 would clear my front end. I have a 62 link pin karmann ghia, and im lowering the front. Im going to put a 3" narrowed beam with adjusters and its going to have the drop spindles and disc brakes, does anyone know if it would fit or what would be a good size to use. Thanks

VWMarc, I had a 2" beam and I'm now running a 4" beam. I had 2.5 dropped spins on the 2" beam with re-pop gas burners that had a 4" back space. My front tires were and still are Continental ProConti 175/55s. On sharp turns the tires would rub on the fender only if I took the turn a little harder than I should. I would assume that your going to have a problem with rubbing on your fender too given the height of the 165/15.

That's what i was thinking, would you happen to know of a size that would clear but not a 135. I don't have enough for the 135s, looking for a cheaper solution.

145/65/15 are a good fit for link pin beams

Building a beam for my Ghia (69), whats the consensus on how narrow? I was thinking 4" then I thought I read where that required you losing the shock towers? Someone else said three and you can keep shock towers, but you have to do " a little trimming". What say you?

True statement. Just a bit of clearancing for the shock tower, bout 1/2 inch into the arch.

I've read you lose the shock towers Cool

Im really not sure, I have a 3 in beam.
But pretty sure you will also lose steering box notch and steering damper mounts too.

I just saw a video on YouTube about lowering the front of a 70 bug with a Monroe air shock and a bar kit spring replacement. He removed the spring and installed bars and put air shocks on instead of the regular shocks. I was wondering if anyone has done this and what was the result?

That is basically describing the air ride setup that you can buy from Airkewld.

http://www.airkewld.com/1966-75-Beetle-Ghia-Fridolin-Front-Air-Ride-Kit-p/1101.htm

Very smooth suspension travel compared to springs.

Does anyone have a thread about the different types of IRS spring plates. I cant seem to find a clear cut source saying much about the different types of plates. Some IRS vw's have it where the torsion tubes stick out by an inch or two and others have them sticking out 7 inches. I am looking for an adjustable spring plate that is for the 7 inch long torsion tube but can only find things saying something like this "21 3/4" bar". What does that mean? How far it sticks out, or length of the spring plate? Sorry for being a lame Confused

I found this but it said nothing about ghias - http://www.denunzioracing.com/pdf/rearsusp.pdf

I have been driving around for a few days with a pair of 2 caster shims with extend bolts from CIP1 with 2 and 1/2 inch drop spindles on the front of my ghia. Caster shims are for cars with the front lower than the rear. More info here - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caster_angle . They just make cars with rake stop wandering when driven. It makes a good difference with highway speeds and is tracking straight but I still need to get an alignment still. It seems to have raised the front of my car back up about 3/4th of an inch but putting my spare tire back in should fix that Laughing

I am running Rivieras with 195\50 R15's on all four corners. I have air shocks in the rear which have a slow leak. I am interested in getting the car level or with a slight rake without raising the rear way up but I am thinking I dont have the room to lower. I know those are big wide tires but I do like the look. I am not rubbing at the moment but fear if I lower it with those big guys I will. Any suggestions?
