I have been told that in areas such as under the hood that if the OE paint is in good shape that I could just clean, scuff with scotch brite type pad, spray sealer on and then top coat with my paint. Does this seem like good or bad info? Would that also work for the interior? My interitor paint is almost as nice as the day it was sprayed - but I am changing colors.

Also, is it necessary to go all the way to the metal for a paint job? I have a decent body wearing 99% of it's original Bahama Blue coat. I don't know what type of paint the factory used - is there a problem with primering and top-coating without DA'ing through to the bare metal? I have neard mixed info on the OE paint being laquer and not being able to lay primer and acrylic type paints over it or the OE primer.

I have been reading for many weeks now and these are just a few of the questions I cannot get comfortable with.

Thanks!

I have been told by proffesional painters that most shops can never reproduce the overall paint quality done at the factory. They say that if your body panel has no rust to sand, prime, paint, and clearcoat.

If on the other hand it has rust to clean the affected areas to bare metal, etch, prime, paint, and clearcoat.

The above should be confirmed with a profesional painter you trust so you are confortable.

if its original paint, you can get away with sanding it with 600 then spraying the base coat(color) then clear.

you dont need primer unless you break through into the metal.
