Why is everyone screwing around with these non German carbs......when you can get your original Solex rebuilt by Solex pro???
Richard Carey gave me advice about what to check out on a Solex 34 before I sent it to him on a Thing that hadn't been started in about twelve years.
O-rings on the bypass and idle jet got the damned AM engine runnning...pretty decently...and at no charge.
He did it because he cares and that's his business.
Come on people.....if your are gonna stay with a basically stock set up.....don't shit can your Solex carbs.
If you suspect a problem........call or email Richard.
If you don't........you can screw with the other makes until hell freezes over.
My 2 cents worth.........

p.s. to radioman.............I'll buy your Solex.......if you are convinced you want to can it after installing your new purchase.
I'll make it work with Richard Carey's help. |

I bought a Pierburg from CIP1 this past spring and could not make the accel pump function well enough to run the car. CIP1 offered to replace it with another brand (I'd have to look at it since I have not yet installed it). The Pierburg I had was junk. I got the clear impression that CIP1 agreed.
And I kept the solex on the car. It weeps a bit but runs fine. Saving the new carb for later. _________________ It's a Southern Thing, 73, stock.

BTW. Go to "pierburg carb problems" on page 3 (I think) of this forum and read more about my efforts with this carb. _________________ It's a Southern Thing, 73, stock.

I bought a Pierburg carb from aircooled.net and put it on my 73 Thing.
I set the initial adjustments (idle and fuel mix) and it has been great. |

My Pierburg carb has been in use for over a year now, and I've had no problems
