I am replacing my separation panel and all four bed floor panels on my 58 single cab. In order, which panels are welded first? Is the separation panel welded in first, then the front two bed floor panels and then the rear two panels last? Anyone who knows the proper order, please help!!!!

| It looks like the separation panel is welded in first, then the two front bed floors, then the two rear bed floors. Does anyone else have input????? |

| Can anyone help me as to what pieces I weld on first for my 58 single cab? I want to know which panels are welded first. Do I weld the separation panel first? Which bed floors to I weld on first? Do I weld the front bed panels first, then the rear bed panels or do I weld the rear ones first, then the front ones. I really need expert advice. |

The top pic shows the old panel being removed. The next pictures is a close up of the bottom edge of the panel where the spot welds where drilled out. To answer Your question the seperation panel goes on last. The front floors are spot welded to the lip that sticks up inside the cab. Then the seperation panel gets welded to the lip on the floor.
I'm pretty certain this question has been asked and answered before.

im not sure on a 58 but my 54 single is the opposite of the photos posted above, seperation panel returns at the bottom and the front floor sits on it _________________ 67 fastback rhd

On my 60, I copied the setup exactly like it was. My seperation panel was beat up, but not rusty, so it was easy to see.
Seperation panel first:
With a wire feed welder, I found it easier to weld from inside the cab. It's easier to clean up welds, and you can smear on new seam sealer to cover them up just like the factory did:
Mock up your 4 bed panels for a nice fit, then but the folded lip against your seperation panel and weld:
The right side bed panels overlap the left, you can barely see in this pic:
I used seam sealer on all the other seams, but since my bed skins were missing when I got the truck, I can't confirm exactly how that was done at the factory
Look at my build thread for more pics. _________________ Check out my truck being brought back from the dead... http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=420762&highlight=sprayed+blood |
