Main page | Log - Current | Log - 2001

December 28, 2001 • Driver's front brake is heating up a little, time for new rubber brake lines.
December 27, 2001 • Registered vehicle and received Arizona plates, the vehicle had to go through a "Level II" inspection where the police contacted the Canadian authorities to make sure it was a legal transfer
• Mounted license plate and my "Everett Volkswagen" dealership plate frame from Everett, Washington
December 26, 2001 • A local VW guy was able to clean up my axle seal housing so I reused it.

• Installed new axle seal kit and reassembled rear brakes.
• Installed more new fuel line
• Topped up tranny fluid with GL-4 from Napa Auto Parts
• Road tested vehicle on highway after filling up with Super and checking the tire pressures.  Drove great, "accidentally" hit 85 mph on a slight downgrade.
• Pressurized washer bottle to full pressure, it blew apart at the hose junction in the spare tire well, that explains the surface rust in the spare tire area.
December 25, 2001 • Played with gas heater a little more but fuel pump is definitely out of order
• Glued windshield reservoir sticker back on.
• Pressurized and tested windshield squirter, it works!
December 24, 2001 • I got the old axle oil seal out but the housing has some scoring, it will have to be replaced.
December 23, 2001 • Reinstalled fuel pump cover, installed new engine compartment fuel lines, installed T for gas heater fuel line.  Fuel line clamp on oil cooler was upside down, corrected it per pictures in my shop manual.

• Renewed fuel line and clamps for gas heater in front trunk.
• Removed spark plug wire ends to look at them, 3 out of 4 broke.  Replaced all spark plug wire ends.  Noticed seal on end of spark plug wires:

• Driver's rear axle seal has a leak, removed driver's rear axle nut (it was only finger tight with no cotter pin!), drum, brake components, and axle seal housing.  Attempted to renew seal but it is frozen in the housing, left it to soak in some PB Blaster rust breaker.

• Cleaned and reinstalled red Coco mats
December 22, 2001 • Located a mint red flat taillight lens here in Phoenix, also purchased all the 6v bulbs I needed - NOS Osram bulbs!
December 21, 2001 • Repaired gas heater on/off/temperature controls and gas heater fuel supply lines.  Gas heater turns on but I think the fuel pump is bad, no fuel is being sucked through the lines.
• Installed new vacuum line
• Installed some new fuel lines but I need more fuel hose, removed in-line fuel filter
• Fixed rubber washer for metal fuel line in engine compartment, it had slipped out of place
• Checked power to radio, power is good.  Radio must be broken.
• Removed fuel pump cover and retaining ring, cleaned both
• Checked fuel pump filter screen, it's clean.
• Inventoried all parts/accessories included with car
December 20, 2001 • It's here!
• Spent a couple hours cleaning the dirt and grime off the undercarriage.
• First pass at degreasing engine and transmission
• Checked out car functions - turn signals don't blink, high beams don't work, 2 parking lights don't work, radio does not work, and gas heater will not turn on, noticed one fuse is missing, as well as the fuse box cover
• Installed missing fuse, more lights work now
• Removed blown and incorrect 12v bulbs from tail and parking lights
• Began inventory of parts needed - See main page for list if you can help
December 19, 2001 • Spoke to original owner on the phone!  Got a lot of details about their ownership.
