The weekend kicks off with a Dinner Cruise on Friday evening – a great chance to meet new folks and visit with those you may only see once a year! After a Saturday morning Breakfast, set your watches and awake your co-pilot for the Navigational Rally – easily one of the favored events of the weekend! Once all the lost drivers have been gathered, bring your raft, kayak or tube and float beautiful Indian Creek with us. As Sunday approaches, resting at one of the local motels or campspots helps prepare you (and your VW) for what has become a necessary stop on your tour of Northwest shows – Family Reunion. Pack the cooler and bring a chair to Ann Morrison Park for a day of music, vendors, raffles, participant-judged classes and an awards presentation. Please visit our website, www.buspilots.com for updates about the weekend and to learn more about our club. Look for us in the past events thread too! |

One of the goals of this event is to raise enough money to award a $1000 Scholarship to a local high school student seeking a degree at St. Philip’s College in the automotive technology field. We feel the need to give back to a sector of education which is often overlooked and would like to win your support in our efforts to fulfill a dream for one local student who is in need of financial assistance. The 2nd Annual So-Tex Showdown will provide a family oriented atmosphere, live bands, food, and much more throughout the event. We hope this year is an indication of what we can provide for you in the future and hope we can continue this tradition for many years to come. The 2nd Annual So-Tex Showdown has extended the categories to bike enthusiasts as well. There are 8 categories to choose from: Hot Rods, Rat Rods, Customs, Trucks, Street Machines, Rat Bikes, Bobber Bikes, and Volkswagens. The show grounds will feature a variety of vendors from candy to clothing, jewelry, plus much more. Local law enforcement will patrol the area and local Fire and EMT will volunteer to insure the safety of competitors and patrons alike. Above all, Metal Werks Garage and Javelina Harley-Davidson hopes to provide the most family friendly event for everyone involved. Due to Rain the original event has been rescheduled to July 18, 2009. We hope to see you there. For more info and pictures of some of our other events visit: http://www.metalwerksgarage.com/ |

when: over the upcoming long Labor Day holiday weekend, Friday September 4th thru Monday September 7th, 2009 where: in the Group campground at Indian Creek Recreational Area located right on Mark Twain Lake, about 30 miles to the west of Hannibal, MO (the website has a map link). All VW's and the enthusiasts that love them are welcome to enjoy this BNNTA family-oriented camping event. This event features VW camping in a beautiful Federal campground facility right on a 22 mile long lake in scenic northeastern Missouri, an informal VW Bus show with awards, informal parts swap meet, a highly competitive "best individual and group" campsite decoration/"theme" contest, a Saturday morning scenic countryside caravan over to historic Hannibal, MO (the home of Samuel Clemens, a.k.a. "Mark Twain"), awards and door prizes on Saturday evening, campfire activities, "slow drags" on Sunday, etc. I have again reserved the entire group campground for our VW Campout use, and as in past years we will restrict access to VWs only. Your vehicle must be a VW of some type or any era to have vehicle access. If you can't show up with a VW for some reason, contact me (bill@bnnta.com). This means that there won't be an RV or a Ford or Chevy camped next to you! You'll wake up each morning to the beautiful sight of nothing but VWs (and the people who love and care for them) for a far as you can see. We've kept the event cost as low as possible because we know that fuel costs more these days. Luckily the cost of gas seems to be dropping a bit, so start searching those couch cushions for loose change and make plans to cruise on in to join in on all the fun! The total event/camping fee for each VW for the entire four day weekend is only $30 which we hope will include an event dash plaque. That's right, only $30 for up to four days of VW camping with your VW friends! An event T-shirt "might" also be available for purchase, we'll see about that later. If you feel like it, try to bring along a cool VW related goodie or two to donate to the pile of door prizes to be given away to participants on Saturday evening. For a simple web site with info about this event just go to: http://www.bnnta.com We are really looking forward to seeing old and new Volkswagen friends streaming into the campground for the long Labor Day 2009 weekend. So start making your plans, tune-up your Bus or any other VW, pack her up, and mark the calendar for another great time at the 24th running of "Buses Nowhere Near The Arch"! You've got all year to get ready for the fun! Bill & Kathryn Bowman http://www.bnnta.com |

SPECIAL CRUISE FOR 2009 - On Saturday, September 26th, 2009, at 9:00 AM, we will “circle our wagens” and meet for breakfast at the Courtyard at The Marriott (south side of Kokomo on Hwy 31) to recap Friday night’s event, and give away more door prizes. Then, “head’m up and move’m out” for a 50 mile cruise, to the historical “Cutler Grist Mill” which is an absolutely beautiful cruise and while we are there we will also visit the “Cutler Covered Bridge” this is a gorgeous drive and a spot for great pictures, you will not want to miss it. We will return to have lunch at a sponsor’s restaurant “Mike’s Italian Grille” for mouth watering cuisine where the atmosphere is as good as the food! NEW FOR 2009 Event Options – This year we will offer options after lunch. Option #1 - The first option will be a 25 mile cruise to attend the Atlanta New Earth Festival, once a year, Atlanta swells to an estimated 100,000 — with eager bargain hunters trolling the streets for crafts, jewelry and antiques at the town’s annual Atlanta New Earth Festival. More than nine months of work will culminate this weekend; upwards of 600 vendors will set up shop hoping to peddle their wares to the thousands who will pass by their tables. Option #2 – The second option will be a 25 mile cruise to attend the Ducktail Run in Gas City, In. which is one of the most incredible car shows in the Midwest. Last year was an absolute blast! As always, the special event at the “Duck Tail Run” will be the ~ Flame Throwing Contest! If you have never witnessed this event, it is one that would make a pyromaniac drool! You will quickly see why it is known as one of the “Coolest” car shows in the Midwest. We are very fortunate to have the Oktoberfest Volkswagen Cruise–In to coincide with these events. We want to offer something a little different this year and we expect this to be another great time for all participants. This will be a week-end packed with Volkswagens, Hot Rods, Customs, Crafts, Antiques and beautiful artesian work. If you plan on spending a night(s) in Kokomo for the Oktoberfest our host hotel is The Courtyard at the Marriott and mention “Oktoberfest Volkswagen Cruise-In and get your special rate which include their fantastic breakfast bar. For Kokomo’s Oktoberfest, Fairmount’s James Dean Festival or Gas City’s Duck Tail Run, to get this rate you will need to make your reservations before September 1, 2009. For hotel and festival information please visit the following websites: www.cityoffirstsvw.com - www.jamesdean.com/community/festival/index.htm. Come and enjoy live German music, great German food and much - much more. Last but not least, put on your danc’n shoes and get ready to Polka like you have never Polka’d before! This has proven to be one of the most incredible experiences we have ever had an opportunity to participate in. So, prepare to enjoy German culture on Friday night and a cruise Saturday to an event of your choice whether it is Antiques, Crafts, Artisans, or Volkswagens, Hot Rods and Custom Cars. On Sunday September 27, 2009, @ 9:00am we will meet for breakfast at the Courtyard at the Marriott to close out a fantastic weekend, give away more door prizes and say our goodbye’s as our guest head for home. Last year, Old Town along with David Maus Volkswagen of Orlando and many other fine sponsors (see our Sponsors page), proudly sponsored this charity event to collect toys for the U.S. Marine Corps. Toys-for-Tots Christmas program. Every year, the U.S. Marine Corps. collects and distributes millions of toys to needy families in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. Because of the ever increasing popularity of the Volkswagen at Old Town, this event is open to all Volkswagens. it is intended to be a fun filled experience and as usual at Old Town, will be a non-judged show. The cars will be on display for all to see and there will be all types of activities for the family including a live band, children's entertainment with the Herbie The Love Bug displays, a best decorated holiday car event, Santa, and of course all of the normal rides and entertainment that is found at Old Town. We are also planning on expanding our vendor/swap meet area and possibly even having a car corral where you can find that special deal on a new or used V-dub...
