Karmann Ghia people and friends gather to discuss our favorite automobile(s) in a fun, friendly atmosphere. The venue is a Karmann Ghia specific workshop and so it's very easy to gain hands-on experience with other enthusiasts sharing of their experiences. Engines to upholstery, transaxles to bodywork, Okrasa to EMPI, vintage to modern, it's all present. The usual start time - especially this time of year - is "about dark", which these days is around 5PM. You can come early if you want to discuss KG business, browse a bit more of the "historical artifacts", discuss some particular problem / issue / topic in depth, or whatever else, but call if you want to come before 3PM (number below). We always "go late." We'll have a pot-luck barbecue, and we'll start some ribs around 7:30PM... We hold these meetings each month on the 3rd Saturday evening, except when something special happens, such as this past September when a new Karmann Ghia Land Speed Record was set and we pushed back the meeting a week. The address is 613 85th Ave, 94621, _behind_ ASE Automotive. (This address has _no_ street frontage.) Note that NEARLY EVERYBODY PARKS AROUND BACK! That is, you probably won't see ANY Ghias from the street - or even know a "gathering" is happening! When you see a small tree and a green and white VW Adventure Wagen (camper, with high-roof) parked inside the gate on your left, you'll know you have arrived. The front door is next to the nose of the Adventure Wagen, but most people park way around back - beyond the buildings on the left. The workshop is close to the Oakland Airport, and easy walking distance to BART or the Oakland Coliseum. There's no need to bring anything but your smile! ... Favorite beverages are always welcome, of course. Oh, and your "non-KG" friends are welcome too, of course. And, if you want to participate in the BBQ / pot-luck, you know what to do! Last year, Old Town along with David Maus Volkswagen of Orlando and many other fine sponsors (see our Sponsors page), proudly sponsored this charity event to collect toys for the U.S. Marine Corps. Toys-for-Tots Christmas program. Every year, the U.S. Marine Corps. collects and distributes millions of toys to needy families in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. Because of the ever increasing popularity of the Volkswagen at Old Town, this event is open to all Volkswagens. it is intended to be a fun filled experience and as usual at Old Town, will be a non-judged show. The cars will be on display for all to see and there will be all types of activities for the family including a live band, children's entertainment with the Herbie The Love Bug displays, a best decorated holiday car event, Santa, and of course all of the normal rides and entertainment that is found at Old Town. We are also planning on expanding our vendor/swap meet area and possibly even having a car corral where you can find that special deal on a new or used V-dub... Bus City 2009 was a success with 13 buses showing up. We had a great time despite the rare Sonoma heat wave. To see pictures from Bus City 2009, click here. For a video, click here. Join us for Bus City 2010 along the Russian River at the Casini Ranch 22855 Moscow Road, Duncans Mills, CA 95430 (about 2 hours north of San Francisco). It will be a bunch of VW bus owners hanging out and enjoying the buses and the people who drive them WHO SHOULD COME: Any VW bus or van in Northern California should probably be there. But you should enjoy camping. Very little racing to be done at the ranch... COST: $40 for the 2 nights (due by March 1st, 2010). Cost covers the site. You are on your own for booze, water, food and Doritos. There is a store at the ranch, but there's no guarantee that they'll have the snacks you like so come prepared.
