Call around to your local auto part stores and see who carries Interstate brand. You need a "19L", it is the correct size.

Wolfsburg West sells them online. Nice battery that looks the part.

Pretty sure that anything you buy on line will be shipped dry and you'll need to find a place to fill it and charge it for you. I just went searching and bought one this week. You can call Interstate battery and find a distributor who can order one for you , or NAPA carries them. Took one day to get it from the warehouse. About $70

Optima sells a newer technology "dry cell" battery. Oddly enough it is about half the size of a traditional wet battery but they also sell a disguise cover that the batter fits in that appears like an older 6 volt. I think they run around $100. Has anyone tried the Optima and if so, what are your impressions. Also, does anyone know if the battery cover that looks like a traditional batter that hides the smaller optima batter is the correct size for my stock battery lid?

Remember, you'll have to buy Electrolytes from a local parts store because it is illegal to ship with the battery. If you are not looking for the orginal look, just run to Pepboys and they'll have everything you need.

I have bought 2 in the last 6 months from my local Pep Boys. They`re not that hard to find.

Optimas are great. Especially nice for a car that isn't driven frequently since they hold their charge basically forever. The peace of mind from having a battery that won't leak acid is worth the price in my opinion.

The stealth holder I looked at was too tall to fit under the seat of a Beetle. Would work in a bus or ghia but you would need to lengthen the battery holder strap.

Optima in my ghia:

If it's a 19L battery, it'll fit.
