I was recently told that it would be safe for me to have a lock on my gas tank so no one can steal my gas. Have any of you done this? Or does anyone know how I can do this? |

How about a locking cap instead of rigging a door lock? |

A non-modified fuel door flap looks nicer IMO, but for the early bays' wide fuel inlet, at least, it's near impossible to find locking caps. Astronomical prices when they do come up!
Almost every decent hardware store sells locks for flat metal or wood cabinet doors, desk drawers, tool box doors & lids, etc. Many are packaged with adapters for variances in spacing, panel thicknesses & engagement arm reach. Some use the round 'hi-security' style of locks/keys. It probably does discourage casual thieves. No endorsement, but here's some pics of different styles available http://www.eastloc.com/
Once tightened into place in the fuel door, I've used JB Weld on the back side, so that there's no movement of the lock frame in the mounting hole I've made in the fuel door.
As always... measure twice & cut once. |
