Ok, before I get started on this understand this is probably more of a rant than anything. I just got my car out of the shop, started to eye the bill and saw something that I couldn't really understand... $420 for labor to replace all 4 ball joints. I read and read on here about how everyone does it and seemed easy enough. I have done a few on other vehicles etc, but now at this point I just don't have the time. I know hate messages will follow, but I work 7 days a week between 2 jobs totaling 90+ hours... So as I said NO TIME. This just seems a little expensive considering. Don't get me wrong , I LOVE MY CAR! Was so glad to get it back today. Glad it is done and will always take my car back to this shop! Some of the best guys to talk to about my car, give opinions from experience, have an ABUNDANCE of parts in stock. Not Trash talking them at all. Just seems like that is a little pricey is all..... Let the HATE MESSAGES FLOW :D :D  :D :D

They must love you if you're willing to pay that kind of money. I paid a local shop $60 to pop all 4, but the arms were already off the car.

Still, your hands are clean and the car is done. Too late to think about it. Just drive it.

wrong place to ask, vw folks are notoriously cheap and think even good deal are outrageous.... that said, on the surface that price seems a little on the high side, not into "rip-off" territory, but a little high... if you feel it's high, contact the shop and ask them. could be a clerical error, or it could be actual. to change the balljoints you must disassemble the entire from suspension, then press them out and new ones back in, then reassemble the front suspension. this also requires a realignment of the front wheels, that price may include that... got nothing to lose by asking...

Did you have a written estimate and/or discuss the fees with the mechanic proir to the service?

Honestly you say $420 for labor what about parts. I had all ball joints, tie rod ends, steering box replaced, front end aligned and mine was just a lil over $500.00 plus he drove the car back to me about 150 miles away. I thought it was fair price, my hands are clean and the job done correctly.

Ball joints were like 25 or 30 each. I did talk to him about it before he did the work, however I will say that I believe I misunderstood what was to be done. Completely my fault for not asking more questions. Expensive lesson. I thought he was completely rebuilding front end.... Tie rods stabilizer and ball joints. Like I said before.... More of a vent than complaint. He did save me the trouble of moving the fuel filter out of the engine compoartment. I will continue to use this shop for things I can't get to. Can't wait for wife to finish nursing school so I can have more time with her..... The car that is
