I installed the Green and white cold water hose from Gowesty and I ruined it with a hair dryer and t leaked. Yep I did it so others may never have the issue.
However, after seeing how sensitive it is to even mild heating makes me want a much better flexible drinking water safe option.
Heck I wonder if I could use PEX with an adapter for the tank?
It would be cool to just use pex throughout actually. I am not sure how to use that on the barb fittings though. |

Try calling some local RV shops - the hose is not unique to VW (the size might be but I doubt it)
I've never had issues with the hose once installed, but it does feel pretty wimpy when you're trying to get it over the fittings. I had an extra section and it took quite a bit of twisting and pulling abuse to get it to actually rupture though. |

I called around and did some internet searching and man the 1-3/8 is a tough size.
I ended up getting the green and white hose from an RV place.
Now I am testing it without the cabinet in and I am having a real bugger of a time getting it to seal.
I had some holes in the hose which is why I replaced it causing leaks. But I also think it was leaking at the junction of the hose and the tank.
I have only a tiny leak now, a droplet forming very slowly but man if I go any tighter I feel like I will crush the tank spout.
Any tips on a tight seal? I have the o-ring and I have tried to clamp on it or not on it and on it seems better.
I hate plumbing. |

inquire at the rv place for potable water system sealer . make sure parts are not distorted. |

The tank filler tube looks good. The tube it brand new and the clamp is round.
I turned into until there was only a small gap in that clamp and felt like any more and I would break the filler neck or something. Its very possible it just needs to be tightened more but jeez. I wish the filler system was a bit better |

Since I know the source of my leak (the filler) I am putting the van back together.
Part of me wants to just weld a cap on the filler and call it good. Most of the time I actually just add water through the top when on the road anyway. But at some point I may change my mind so I won’t.
Anyway my plan is to double clamp. I am going to put on the original clamp, then a second clamp closer to the tank. I will use some sort of sealant under the second clamp only. Since the water pressure there will be extremely low (much less than the already low pressure on the first) the bit of sealant should be enough to stop the drip.
If that fails I did find what looks like a very good quality hose. I would get that now but it looks more ridged and I know that would be a challenge too. I would likely enlarge the hole on the back wall to allow an easier bend. |

I ended up emailing gowesty as that was where I got the original hose. They said use silicone. I picked up some food grade silicone and installed it. I hope it works. |
