'MORE TORQUE' starter adaptor for Vanagons Price: $83/$93
|
I developed these special adaptors in 2008 when I found a high failure rate in the expensive 'Hi-Torque' / IMI starters commonly sold by several vendors. (yes, they are still selling these to unsuspecting customers, changing the name to hide the fact that it's still the same garbage!)
My adaptor plate solves all hard-start issues by using a commonly-available, off-the-shelf VW/Bosch SR0408X TDI starter that has the torque to crank over difficult to start engines as well as a faster cranking speed. You will be amazed at how easily your Subaru, TDI, 1.8T, or even V6 and V8 conversions will start using this adaptor system. Fits all systems using a stock Vanagon WBX or automatic bell housing, also earlier models such as bay window or Beetle transmissions. Adaptors are specially machined for manual and automatic transmissions. (Note: these do NOT fit the diesel bell housing - that version can be found at T3 Technique) Top-quality machine work done locally in Bend Oregon. Optional OEM-style plug with 6" pigtail, this makes the switch wire a sealed, solid connection and prevents any water or dirt ingress.
The manual and Syncro use the same version, using bolts to attach the starter to the adaptor. Also worth noting is that a lot of folks are using the SR0425N starter, which makes the Syncro w/locker installation much easier as it's a shorter length starter. Slightly less powerful, but currently NEW starters at around $130 +/- from Rock Auto and no core!
