Type 4 / 914 Rocker Arm Geometry Machining   Price: $70
*SHORT* This will allow you to use swivel adjusters on your stock engine without shimming or cutting your O.E. pushrods.

*TECHNICAL*
I do the same machining on Type 4 and 914 rockers as I do on the Type 1 rocker arms. If you're looking to add 911-style adjusters you'll need to remove rocker material to achieve correct geometry. My machining is not only aesthetically better than ground-upon rockers, it also allows you to turn in your adjusters farther without sacrificing strength. Another benefit is better adjuster cup oiling. The dish that I mill into the rockers is approximately two threads away from the oil feed hole. Since the oil will take the path of least resistance, it will head out toward the adjuster cups. Porsche-style adjusters are typically only splash oiled, but with this mod, I expect full-time oiling.

After milling, I surface the thrust ends on my granite surface plate. This will lower the friction between the rockers and endfloat shims, if used.

I do this mod on 1.7. and 1.8 liter 8mm rockers and 2.0 liter 10mm rockers. I usually have tool steel Thorsten Pieper 911-style adjusters available in both thread sizes. They cost $114 for eight. I can supply parts for a solid assembly, including shims in different thicknesses, solid center spacers, and I can narrow the mounting blocks to allow more adjustability and stack more shims ($45). I also have a line on 8mm rocker studs.

*Disclaimer* This modification cannot correct a bad rocker geometry problem. If your adjusters sit too far in with stock adjusters, your pushrods are likely too long, and will require shimming with the swivel adjusters. Flycutting, barrel shortening, and valve jobs can change the geometry. If your stock adjuster protrusion is correct, then the swivel adjusters will clear just fine.
