**Update March 11th**
Officially in San Diego. Ran like a dream. Come see it while you can! Now has 122k miles.

**Update Sunday March 11th**
Van is running like a dream. Currently in White Sands, NM.
**Update Friday March 9th 2018 **
HEADING FOR SAN DIEGO TODAY! Will take pictures of the drive. Expect to be in San Diego by the 12th late in the afternoon. Text me at 619-756-2021 if you want to come see and drive the van in person. Just got a full service from my mechanic - over $1000 dollars in servicing...all new belts, fixed all leaks, replaced a rusted coolant pipe, full tune up (spark plugs, rotor, ignition wires, fuel filter, oil filter).

** UPDATE 3/3/2018**
Here is a video walk thru ( https://youtu.be/eLnKjUvjk2Q ) of the exterior and interior of the van. The inside is fantastic. The outside needs some love if you’re that type, otherwise it looks great if you’re not analyzing every ding and scratch. Minimal rust. A couple dents to be rounded out but quick fixes.

Taking the van in for a last tune up and check up by my mechanic out here before heading out for cross country road trip on Friday next week! Will have him inspect it through and through and give a report on her for you guys. Should be to San Diego by the 13th if all goes well (and I assume it will). Should be a good testament to the reliability of the engine and parts. After road trip, all the new parts will have been broken in nicely!

Additional items added to the sale:
- GW Truck Mirrors - $350 value - didnt install yet because I like the power mirrors
- Bike rack for rear hatch - $300 value
Negotiable Items:
-SKB Cargo Box
- Road Shower 4

FIRM on $30,000

Buy my bitchin van!!!
Meet, the Red Rocket (name given by @jacobdioli who also has a bitchin van for sale on CL), my 1987 Volkswagen Vanagon Westfalia. She's a LEAN MEAN DRIVING MACHINE that purrs with her original 2.1 L 4 cylinder engine with a low 119,000 miles! She has many bells and whistles that I added to her in order to eventually take her on a trip to South America. I held off on the Subaru engine because I almost felt like I had to do it on a stock water boxer? I'm super sad to see her go - I thought it was love at first sight! I will find another one in few years when the timing is right. I want this to go to someone who will use it more than I can and enjoy her! I put a lot of money into this van (obviously), but I hope you'll appreciate the modifications that I did do. Currently I'm in Maryland with it, but will be driving it across country to San Diego (where I live) in early March to (hopefully) sell her to a new LOVING owner! She's a very solid van! I can't tell you how many thumbs up I have gotten as I am driving the streets. My mechanic (Dick) at Dicks Autohaus says its one of the nicest vans he has worked on (you can call him at (410) 827-6501 to prove it if you'd like - just ask him about Andy's red van and ask of his opinion. He has been in the business a long time. His mechanics did all the big upgrades on this and I have the documentation for proof! All scheduled maintenance has been done and simple tasks like a regular tune up has been done by yours truly. No leaks. Engine runs flawless and starts up strong every time - even in colder conditions. Some cons of the van are as follows - there is a small dent on the passenger side rear corner from the past owner backing into a mailbox or something...its small and easily fixable, but I didn't fix it because quite frankly I don't care because I figured I was gonna rough it up on my road trip. The paint is old - about 10 years old - but it still looks great. There are chips and scratches in the paint. By no means is it perfect but if you want to go spent 10K on a paint job by all means! Being a 1987 - the cooling system on this van is bitchin! Go Westy recommends to just get an 87 or newer to fend off any inevitable problems. The Undercarriage is rust free. Has been garage kept and originally from a dry state (NM). The new brakes all around and new power steering has this one driving like a dream. When I had my mechanic put on the brakes and shocks and such he found that the power steering rack was cracked so put down my wallet and had the entire power steering system rebuilt new! I also had him rebuild all the brakes because if you have ever driven a full camper westfalia, they are HEAVY and the stock brakes just don't feel safe! Now at stop lights I come in hot, throw the bad girl into neutral and just cruise to a smooth stop with the bigger disk brakes. This vans break system has been completely rebuilt. Everything is new with stainless steel brake lines, new rotors, wheel bearings, disks, everything. The Small Car Performance brakes in the front and the new Go Westy Brake Drums in the back have the brakes on point. So I'm Sadly selling this because it is time to move on to a more "realistic" car for the career field I'm going into. This van has never broke down on me, but I need a car that will get me to where I need to go 100% of the time. Buy the RED ROCKET!!! I wanna see someone happy in her cruising around San Diego - chilling at the beach - getting beach babes - going on RAD ADVENTURES. Do all the stuff I wish I had the time to do! Ugh I jumped the gun to early on this one and I wish I was in the financial standpoint to keep her in storage until the times were better but I can't.

Everything new has been installed this year, if you want a quality westy with new parts and without the headache of doing all this work then this is a good option! I feel like this is priced competitively with all the upgrades...if you don't think so then shoot me your offer! Install some solar panels and this is ready to be off grid!

Here is a list off most of the upgrades, I put some prices down so you can get a feel of the high price items in here to know what your getting and think about a good offer...not including the days of installation work hours

Also firm on the $30k...I had it on the east coast for 30k and was gonna bump it up to 32k after I drove it across country but I didnt.

Will consider trades (+ cash if applicable) for year 2000 F-250, newer 4runner, FJ, 1977 Westfalia, newer Tacoma, 80's land cruiser. 4x4 something

Thank you!! Call me anytime! I love to just talk about vans so even if you don't want this one, give me a call!
