1973 VW Thing! Very Clean Restoration!   Price: 16995
Here is the story of my 1973 VW Thing. I purchased the Thing from an older man here local who purchased it 16 years ago. He has spent the last 16 years restoring the Thing so when his granddaughter turned 16, she would have a super cool car to drive. Well that day came and she just didn't want the car. No A/C and a stick shift? Not for that girl. What I wouldn't have done to have a grandpa to do that for me. So this is what he informed me he had done.

Paint and Body: The car was originally orange but he wanted it to be white. The body is dang near perfect for a Thing. Like I said "for a Thing" The paint is shiny white and looks great. The driver's rear fender is a little off on paint b/c he had to take it off and repaint it due to scratching it and it didn't match that well. ALL the floor pans are solid and there is ZERO Rust on them. I've been all over this car and I can't find any rust anywhere. I'm taking it to a friend's shop next week to put it on the lift and get pictures of the under side.

The Thing has a working heater and will cook you out of the car. He sent it to a place in New York that he called Mr. Heater (?) and had the entire heater rebuilt and let me tell you, it fires up every time (Super Neat system). He described the motor as being brand new and completely rebuilt. And by the looks of it, I'd say he is telling the truth. It's a 1600 and the mileage reads 76610. He put an aftermarket roll bar in it with 3 point seat belts. All of the seats have new padding and new fabric. All four windows are new and the top is still in really good shape. The windshield wipers work and so does every single light on the car. The only thing that needs to be fixed is the bright lights won't turn on but that's my fault. I recently put a new ignition switch in and when I put the steering wheel back on, I'm guessing I didn't line up the turn signal switch properly and now the bright lights won't turn on but the blinkers work so I just need to pull the steering wheel back off and readjust it. Since I've had the car, I've when through the entire brake system putting on four new wheel cylinders, new master cylinder, and new brake shoes. All four drums were in good shape and didn't need to be turned. I replaced the fuel filter and all of the rubber fuel lines from the fuel filter back. I relocated the fuel filter to underneath the car and to a metal fuel filter versus a plastic one on the motor. It has a brand new Solex 34-PICT 3 carburetor, new spark plugs, and an electronic ignition distributor. And it does have an alternator. It has a fresh oil change with new screens and gaskets using Valvoline VR-1 20-50 racing oil. The wheels are currently black and I painted them with Plasti Dip so it can be peeled off. The downfall is the previous owner painted the front two wheels white to match the car and the rear wheels are brand new and they came in silver so they didn't match therefore I painted all four of them. I really like the look of the black so I wanted to temporarily paint them to see if I was going to like the color before getting them powder coated. But I will let the next owner make that decision because they may not like black wheels. I installed a Soundstream head unit with a DVD player and two Kicker 5 1/4 inch speakers along with a brand new antenna. The head unit is Bluetooth compatible and also play CDs. It has a fairly new Duralast battery and I just added new seat belts to the rear. As you can tell from the pictures the windshield folds down which I've ran with it like that many times during the summer. The ignition and both the front doors all match as far as key goes and the hood latch works properly from inside the glove box area. The gas tank is fairly new as well and the gas gauge also works as it should. I do not have a spare tire for it but that wouldn't be hard to locate I love the car and it's an absolute blast to drive but I want to use this money to put toward doing an LS Turbo swap on my grandpa's Chevy pickup that I have now. I'm pricing the car at $16,995. I've seen Things sell from anywhere from $3,000 for something that's junk to over $20,000 for Prime condition. I'm not saying this car is perfect but I'm saying you're going to have a hard time finding one this clean and done right. Please call or text with any questions at 479-366-4079! I'm located in the northwest corner of Arkansas and I can help with shipping if needed as I have a car hauler.
