1989 Vanagon Adventurewagon Syncro TDI   Price: 49,000
1989 Vanagon Syncro Adventurewagon TDI for sale, $49,000 or best offer.
This vehicle is in superb condition, mechanically, body and interior. It has no rust, and has never been in an accident. The paint is original with a nice sheen. The upholstery is clean, with no stains, wear marks or damage. The body has 163,000 miles on it. I am the second owner, having had the van for over 4 years. The original owner purchased it from Ed Anderson founder of Adventurewagon, Inc. in Fort Bragg, Ca. The family that bought it new kept it garaged from 1989 until they sold it to me in 2013. I keep it protected in a car port.
Our family has outgrown the van; we need a larger camper now.

I had this Vanagon fully converted to a TDI, by Matt and Kate Garner of Pioneer Wagenwerks in Idaho. They have done numerous TDI conversions on Vanagons, to very high standards. They installed a rebuilt 2002 Jetta TDI Diesel engine, and all accompanying electronics and systems, so that this Syncro performs like a factory TDI, with excellent torque, which really provides the power and torque that these vehicles need to run strong with good efficiency.
Matt had the transaxle completely rebuild by German Transaxle in Bend, Oregon, including the installation of taller 3rd and 4th gears to take advantage of the increased power of the TDI engine.
The suspension has been completely gone through, with all worn components replaced. Adjustable Fox shocks have been installed, with improves the handling immensely. All brakes are new, with new rear drum brakes and GoWesty's big brake kit in the front.
I have had the van regularly maintained by a local VW specialist shop. They installed an new AC head unit made by Vintage Air, with all remaining components stock VW. The AC blows cold, and operates on R-134a, not polluting coolant.

The van averages 31 mpg empty, and 25 mpg fully loaded. It runs on regular diesel and/or biodiesel. A blend of 20% biodiesel reduces emissions significantly , and provides a higher level of lubrication for the engine.

This Vanagon is legally registered in CA as a diesel vehicle, and is smog exempt. I have a clear title in hand.

I had two appraisals by two separate companies done, and both valued the van at $70,000.

This is an excellent example of these unique vehicles. If you are seriously interested, please give me a call at show contact info . You can also call my mechanics for more technical details as well.
I have extensive records on this vehicle, including maintenance records, the appraisals, and a detailed build sheet outlining the TDI conversion.
