1966 Pigalle Edition Survivor Price: $11500
1966 Pigalle Edition Survivor
This is an unique opportunity to purchase this special car. It's very rare and hard to come across these Beetles and more with this amazing patina.
This is not just any 1966 Beetle. This is a very rare, special order, "Pigalle" Edition. The Beetle only came in Pearl White or Black paint with an all Red interior.
The "Pigalle Edition" Beetle was only sold during the 1966 model year and was named after the famous "Pigalle" or "Red Light" district of Paris. It was only offered as a special order purchase and is among the rarest of all VWs.
This is a one family owned car, purchased recently from the original owner's son.
I'm not sure how many of you know about the Pigalle Edition VWs. My fascination with them started when I stumbled across a 66 Type III fast back that had come out of a Museum in Europe. Ivan McCutcheon from Volksworld sold it to a friend of mine and by memory I think he got it from Paul at Type III Detectives in the UK. . .
It was Pearl white and an all red interior. This was 20 years ago.
I've always been on the look for Pigalle edition Beetles, these cars where produced from 64 to 65 for the 66 sales year only, until someone in VW pull the plug on them as the Pigalle district is the Red Light District of France.
This is a link from Jet Age Motoring explaining a bit more about this era:
Over the past twenty years I've owned more than one Pigalle edition vehicle but never quite got my hand on a bug until this one. I planned on building a patina style car like my red 66 (see pic attached).
I have a thing for 66 Beetles.
I was unaware that this 66 was a Pigalle Edition on agreeing to buy it from photos, it wasn't until time of delivery I realized "oh wow. . ." it's the one I was looking for. . . This put me in a very tricky position, I'd planned on building a car slammed on Fuch but knowing how rare these cars are and how original this one is with its awesome patina, drove me to the point of thinking it should just be persevered, maybe a sympathetic mechanical and interior restoration. . . enjoyed and preserved. . . and I'm not the man for that at this point. . . so I've decided to give someone else the opportunity to own a very very rare and special mid-60s VW.
It is the perfect candidate for that special person that likes unique and one off vehicles or you may carry on and slam it on Fuch etc. and that'll be perfect too. . .
Whoever purchased the car in 66 obviously had a love for the car, not only they ordered the Pigalle interior, they also had dealer fitted Air Conditioning, EMPI door pulls, EMPI accessory bumper bar strengtheners fitted which, are all still on the car.
I was told at the time of purchase, the beetle had been family owned since new and was sold through a third party to me from the son of the original purchaser.
Let me give you a description of the car I'm offering for sale:
EXTERIOR: Pearl White. Original and unrestored body work, to be honest it's as original as you can get. I feel the pictures speak for themselves and there's very little to add.
INTERIOR: As mentioned, this is a Pigalle interior, as you can see, the important parts that are not available reproductions are there.
At some point, the car has had front seat covers changed and the interior door cards. The red rubber mats are also changed.
You can buy all new interior to match the original red a part from the mats that you could tint red.
It has the original VW safety belts.
Please note that the steering wheel is black, the Pigalle edition for Beetles kept the steering wheel, turn signal and column and e-brake in black while the Karman Ghia and the Type III were all red.
I'm attaching a couple of pictures of other Pigalle edition Beetles previously for sale showing the interiors.
Sapphire III radio fitted from dealer.
This is a link to show the special interior ruby red offered in 1966 for the Pigalle edition:
FLOOR PAN/INNER FENDERS/VALANCE: Front and rear valance and inner fenders show no sign of damage or previous repairs.
Very original and un-repaired floor pan, with no rust and still VW original undercoating as do inner fenders.
the car was very original and the undercoating is dry, flaking and loose. . . where you peel the undercoat back the inner fenders show original white shinny paint, the floor pan shows black paint. There's no corrosion in the car, it's dry and free from rust.
WHEELS AND TIRES: Original 66 steel wheels with the original paint with hub caps and four new tires.
RUNNING GEAR: It's all original in good driving order. Jumps out of second every now and then but transmission doesn’t make grinding noises or banging, nothing like that. Just that under deceleration in second pops out, common thing.
ENGINE: Original 1300cc with modifications to fit dealer AC (the AC has been removed but it comes with the car).
I have a nice history file on the car with copies of invoices from servicing, engine rebuild, original owners manual, etc, etc. . .
It's ready for export also. I will personally help with delivery and shipping arrangements to your door if required. Please see the link to my website:

I am asking for $11,500 negotiable.
This car is sold as is with no guarantees or warrantees implied.
I do collect more than one brand of vehicle but have a deep down love for Volkswagen and tend to cherry pick the right cars for myself to enjoy for sometime then pass them onto th4 next care taker.
