1964 Double Slider Panel, Rear Window Delete!   Price: Sale Pending
1964 Double Slider Door Panel Bus With Rare Optional Rear Window Delete And Original Safaris!

We all see a huge overuse of the term "rare" in the Vintage Volkswagen scene, but this 1964 Double Slider Door Panel Bus with Optional Rear Window Delete certainly qualifies for use of the term. This is one of approximately 6 or 7 Split Windshield Double Slider Panel Buses know to exist and seems to be the earliest known example. As if that weren't already enough to quantify this Bus as super special, you then add to the package that it has an extremely rare option of having no rear window, and it's as special as it gets. Just for good measure, how about adding another layer of the wow factor and top the Bus off with a beautiful original set of sekurit safari windows? This is a serious Bus lovers Bus.

The Bus was completed back in 2009 and quickly took a few awards at a few shows it attended including Top 10 honors, Best Paint, and 2nd Place in the Bus Class which included Buses of all years. It has been driven approximately 15,000 miles in the last 9 years, it has some expecting stone chips and minor imperfections that come with use, but it clearly still displays nicely and better than most 54 year old Buses we see these days.

Several NOS parts were used in the restoration including:

*Complete Taillight Assemblies
*Complete Front Blinker Assemblies
*Gas Gauge
*Miscellaneous Rubber Seals throughout including Rear Hatch Seal
*The Windowless Rear Hatch was impressively NOS when installed!

There is some interesting known history of the Bus in that it was originally delivered to Windward Volkswagen in Hawaii straight from Volkswagen in Germany. It's "well-above-average" condition is in great part due to its use as a delivery van for a bakery many years ago when it lived in Hawaii. The original and valuable Windward Volkswagen license plate frame is still present and included in the sale of the Bus. From there it made its way to sunny Souther California which certainly helped to preserve its solid and dry status as is exemplified by the beautiful original undercarriage including the original belly pans. The Bus has clearly never been abused and the original owners manual with the vinyl cover from the dealer are also present and will accompany the Bus as well.

The Bus has survived remarkably well over the last 54 years. Much of the paint inside the cab is original including the dash, seat stand, and bulkhead wall, too. The floors are super solid and dry, the body is very straight, and even the original belly pans are in great shape for their age, never having required replacement. There is a small rust hole on the lower inner corner and the outer skin of one of the cargo doors. Nothing scary, but worth dealing with at some future point. Another cool detail to note is the accessory industrial mirrors and mirror arms, a nice touch that compliments the style very well. The Bus was resprayed on the outside in the original color of Pearl White and still displays nicely today. The Hawaiian Primo Beer logos were hand painted years ago by an older sign painted in the same fashion as would have been done when the Bus was new over half a century ago. There are also some cool Primo Beer cans and posters that will be included with the Bus as well.

The interior is nice, clean, and features faithful grey seat upholstery with the white piping. The headliner and door panels have a cool kind of beach feel to them being wood and bamboo, tasteful, and nicely done. The original radio blockoff plate and original cab divider are also included and the Bus currently has Sirius radio and an upgraded sound system for the ability to have modern grade tunes.

Mechanically the Bus is a great driver and features a 1600 dual port that was professionally rebuilt approximately 12,000 miles ago, same goes for the transaxle. I can email several videos of the Bus starting, idling, revving, and driving down the highway, too. It does leak a little oil, not unusual, just something to note. It has been converted to 12 volt and the emergency flasher isn't currently working and the wipers work although they run a bit slow, everything else works.

Overall this is a very presentable, clean, solid, and unusual Bus with a lot of cool factor and it's ready to enjoy. Thanks!
