88 Wolfsburg Price: 15000
Selling my beloved Vanagon.
I have owned her for 4.5yrs and have done a ton of work so that she is happy on the road doing 70mph for hours on end.
Since I have owned it, almost all the work has been done at Van Cafe. They can vouch for my dedication to the vehicle.
I am selling because we just moved to Hawaii and the max speed limit on the island is 50mph. Plus the super salty air would eat this thing alive. This van is best suited for long trips to amazing places than confined to a mud covered salt filled postage stamp of a place.
If it was a syncro, this post would not be up! so...its 2wd. But she is happy on dirt roads. And when loaded down with camping gear and coolers for a 3 day weekend in the sierras, I consistently get 21-24mpg driving back and forth from the Santa Cruz area. around town, my mpg is aroudn 18-20. Not sure if the 15" GoWesty rims help with that or the K&N air filter or the taller 4th gear in the 2yr old GoWesty 4 speed manual transmission, but I am very thankful THIS van is not a 14-18mpg van.
I bought it nearly stock with 220k on it and am currently at 306k.
Got a newer engine in it (110k) when I got to 280k. Pulled old engine to have the headgaskets done and never put it back in. Recently sold that engine.

~The tinting is the static kind, so it isnt glued. easy to take off but has worked very well for years. I installed it as a short term thing and it worked perfect. it isnt aesthetically perfect from the inside as you can see in the photos, but it keeps the sun out and the van waaaaayyyyy cooler than it woudl otherwise
~The sliding door is a slightly different color. the previous owner sideswiped somethign that dented the slider just enough to cause the door to not seal properly. I found a perfect one on CL from a 89 with the same color code, Orly Blue. Turns out the batch of paint used has a slightly more green sparkle in it and a different gloss finish. It has never bothered me, especially since it seals properly. There is a crunched section above the rear passenger wheel well that I have just never replaced. It is rusted where the paint came off but has no structural relevance to the integrity of the vehicle.
~There is a small rust spot right on the window seam on teh rear drivers side. One day that will need to be attended to. maybe when the windows come out to get a proper tinting.
~rear bumper is original and is slowly crumbling. The drivers side corner has a piece missing. Still completely functional, but someday will need to be replaced.
~The roof had some rust spots that I sanded down to bare metal, treated with POR15, and then repainted the whole roof with an enamel rustoleum paint last year.
~The van has original paint, aka 30yrs of little nicks. Last year, the nose got a new paint job after I rear-ended someone. insurance paid for bumper, new ac radiator up front and a paintjob. Couldnt get the body shop to just paint the whole thing at teh same time.
~AC works, but is all original, but the body shop charged the system with the new refrigerant. It hasnt been professionally converted. Could use an recharge.
~Just a week ago, I broke the passenger side front turn signal on the steel campsite sign up in Yosemite. Ordering a new one shortly.
~Will need new tires soonish. Running the Nokians now.
~something else probably...
Tired of writing.
I know there is soooo much more, so ask me your questions.
My wife and I are using the van until July 18th at which point we will be heading back to Hawaii.
We will be all over central California from Yosemite to Santa Cruz and up to Sonoma Co until July 18th.
Happy to meet where is works!
