1963 Westfalia SO34 Camper, Original Survivor!   Price: $75,000
1963 Westfalia SO34 Survivor Camper, 29,000 Original Miles!

This beautiful unrestored Turkis and Blue White Flipseat SO34 without a doubt has to rank among the nicest unrestored examples of its kind still in existence. Many years back this Bus was part of the famous Wilson's Volkswagen collection from Oklahoma. It made its way to a well-known preservationist from Southern California and was gone through as needed during his ownership. He even loaned the Bus to the prestigious Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles and they displayed it in a vintage Camper display for a while. Over a decade ago the Westy made its way to New Zealand and has been in mature adult ownership over there, always being respected and cherished as something truly special.

It is believed that the Bus has just over 29,000 original miles. Most of the paint is original, most of the interior is original, and the original-to-the-Bus engine is still running in the Bus.

Other critical details to note include the hard-to-find and valuable original Westy items that are still with it including:

*Foyer Tent
*Privy Tent
*Child's Cot
*Roof Rack (early type for Hatchtop Bus)
*Toilet
*Spare Wheel Table Holder
*Ender's Stove
*Chandelier (damaged)
*Ambulance Fan (m coded original-to-the-Bus)
*European Locking Steering Column/Ignition Switch (m coded original-to-the-Bus)

Missing items include:

*Chair
*Water Jugs
*Mauser Bowl

The body is in exceptional unrestored condition, super straight, remarkably dry, and still displays the vast majority of the original Turkis and Blue White paint. The nose and part of the long side were resprayed some years back when they suffered some light damage during the boat ride to New Zealand. The paint displays nicely, is remarkably strong, and has some blemishes and imperfections as one would expect on a now 55 year old time capsule survivor. The bumpers and wheels were resprayed during the preservation. All of the doors, doglegs, decklid, rear apron, and correct slash cut bumpers are correct and original, too. The underside of the Bus is way above average, as you'd expect, dry, and has load of nice Turkis paint peeking out from beneath the original undercoating. Very hard to find a Bus with such a nice chassis and underside these days!

The interior is mostly original, is super clean, and has a definite time capsule feel to it as well. The plaid upholstery was replaced with an excellent and very faithful reproduction material from BBT in Belgium. Some of the wood panels were also replaced as needed and the majority of the rest of the interior is original. Gorgeous original paint dash, beautiful front floor that is nice enough to wax, and the light colored cabinets are as good as you'll find. Other details to note include the dealership decal on the dash, the original aluminum drink cups inside the cupboard, the period chrome can opener, boxes of old school Hershey's chocolate bars, the original marble mat on the rear engine shelf, etc. The more you look, the more you notice, and the more this Westfalia impresses.

Mechanically the Bus is a turnkey driver, starts and runs well, and I can email a video of the Bus running and driving down the road to seriously interested parties. The engine is the original-to-the-Bus, a stock reduction box transaxle, stock suspension and brakes, resprayed original 15 inch Bus wheels, and it currently rides on a set of radial tires. It has been driven sparingly over the years, obviously, but it does make it out for an occasional outing in good weather once in a while.

There's no doubt that early Westfalia Campers have been on the rise of interest and value in recent times and time capsule original paint survivors have always been highly coveted amongst the collector community. This Bus hits on several notes including the much-loved colors of Turkis and Blue White. This is a world class example that will certainly be one to be appropriately proud of for a new owner. Thanks!

$75,000
