1970 Sunroof Bay Window Bus   Price: 3,000
An uncommon 1970 Sunroof Bay Window Bus. This comes with a clean New Mexico title in my name.
This bus has been cleaned out, and is ready to be completed. It is an excellent project Bus for someone who wants to put it together and drive it as is, or fully restore. It has a thin layer of cream colored spray paint on it as well as some colorful paint on the rear. There is a lot of original Savanah Beige paint under it all, and with a lot of elbow grease can be brought back out. This bus is Dry and mostly rust free, even on the common areas. Rockers, panels, cargo floor, front floor, rear corners and dog legs all look really good. There is the classic hole in the battery tray but not a big one. There is some rust on an area of the sunroof that is a common place for that to happen on sunroof buses and appears to be an easy fix from what Iíve researched. There has been some damage to the nose as you can see in the photos, and has its share of dings etc...
We have made a nice vinyl floor with wood subfloor for the cleaned and painted cargo area.
Comes with a 1972 bumper with bumper guards that has been modified to fit earl bays, itís in pretty good shape, and will do the job til you find a correct one.
The metal part of the dash was stripped and rust treated and repainted. It even comes with a one of a kind St Christopher shrine clock delete.
The sunroof has been opened and all the rusty bits treated and all the grime taken out of the channels. All the sunroof parts have been cleaned and put back in. There are no cables, no hand crank, and some of the plastic parts are cracked and brittle, but repop parts are available. The exterior sunroof is on the clean track and can be opened and closed by hand. The interior metal panel of the sunroof is missing. These get beat up when people try to pry them open when they get stuck. Iíve seen them for sale on The Samba. You can easily convert this into a pop top, as well as a rag top. There are a few companies that make the ragtop kits and they are very cool.
Chopped up old wiring harness removed and new complete harness from Wolfsburg West comes with it, ready to install. 1971 fuse block included can be modified into a 1970 or you can wire up as a 1971, not much difference.
All tail lights, reverse lights, front blinkers are included. New ignition switch and key barrel too. All can be seen there in the photos.
Brakes will need to be gone through, and a new brake fluid reservoir is included.
Tires hold air fine but new ones are needed. Tie rod on drivers side looks bent.
The engine is out of the bus currently. Previous owner said the engine was a newer rebuild. We drove it minimally before parking it in January. When we bought it, it fired right up and idled great. Problem was that the rear firewall tin was incorrect, and needed replacing. The correct tin is included. Thatís why we pulled the engine. It also had an electric fuel pump thingy that we removed. Two correct fuel pumps are included, working condition too we were told, but who knows. We have been in the process of cleaning up the motor to prepare to put it back together and back in the Bus. I will leave the rest of this job etc... for the new owner. All the tins have been cleaned up, painted as well as the manifold etc... comes with a gold plated gas cap and a rhodium painted oil cap. See photos for all the heater boxes, mustache bar, muffler etc... all ready to be put back in service.
I have tried to be honest and thorough with pictures and what I know, but I am no expert. I hope there is enough here for one to be informed enough before seeing it in person. Questions are welcome. Price is: $3,000 OBO
I canít text or email more photos. Text is easiest.
