1973 Volkswagen Thing   Price: $16,000
Up for sale is my Dadís 1973 Volkswagen Thing. He has owned the car for about 25 years. Was primarily used around town when he lived near Yosemite and was occasionally towed behind his motor home. Very little use over the past few years. Just driven about one a month to keep everything in good working order. Odometer reads 86402, which I believe is the actual mileage.

Body and Paint
Outside was painted in the original yellow prior to my Dad purchasing the car. Paint still in good overall condition. Body has normal dings, dents and scratches as expected on 20+ plus year old paint job. Inside paint is original. No evidence of any collision damage or rust on the body or pan.

Interior and Top
New convertible top from the Thing Shop that was installed about two years ago. Has original ďThingĒ front seat that Iím guessing were recovered years ago, but could be original. Nice back seat. There are a couple sets of original side windows that come with the car. Has locking glove box door that was purchased years ago from the Thing Shop that was painted to match the interior paint. Overall interior pretty much in original stock condition. Has sheep skin seat covers on both front seats and a heavy indoor/outdoor carpet installed on the floors.

Engine and Transmission
Original engine and transmission still installed in Car. Engine was rebuilt years ago and probably has about 10,000 to 15,000 miles on rebuild. Engine all stock and runs and drives great. Doesnít smoke or leak oil, or no more than any Volkswagen does! Original Volkswagen Thing only exhaust system.
Gas heater should be in good working order. I forgot to turn it on the last time I drove the car.

I removed the original transmission when my Dad first got the car and put a built transmission with close ratio gears, which the old man hated for years. I had the original transmission rebuilt and reinstalled it about 5 years ago. Probably only has a few thousand miles on the transmission and CV joints. Has older style Hurst shifter.

Brakes, Tires, Suspension
Four-wheel disc brake kit, with emergency brake installed about 5 or 6 years ago. I believe the brake kit was purchased from Empi. Could probably dig up at least the stock rear brake parts if someone wanted them for the car.

Additionally, There is an original Volkswagen Thing Hard Top in excellent condition that can be purchased with the car. Hard top not included in asking price.

Addition pictures available on request for for serious buyers.

I'm selling this car for my Dad who lives in McKenzie Bridge, Oregon, which is located between Eugene and Bend. If you would like to set up a time to inspect the vehicle please contact me and I will make the arrangements.
