The Trailbreaker 16inch Syncro for sale
After owning the Trailbreaker Syncro for over 12 years, it is time for me to start something new.
So she is for sale.
She started her life December 1991 as a Finnish boarder-patrol vehicle, guarding the boarder with Russia.
They do not use salt in winter, so she is well preserved.
Being build end of 1991, it is truly one of the last 16 inch syncro’s build.
One could say I am the ( real ) second owner.
She got her Dutch registration in 2007 and a campervan registration in 2015 ( if I remember correctly )
In that time a lot has been done to the syncro.
Complete restauration in 2006/2007 and M-TDI conversion in 2013. ( see Youtube, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R38OBab-6Zs 16inch VW TRAILBREAKER SYNCRO rebirth )
So what is done? Here we go:
Engine is a Mechanical TDI, that means NO ELECTRONICS… if you have a 9V battery, attach it to the pump solenoid, and it will run.
The pump is a custom Bosch pump and is able to feed a 240HP engine.
It is completely rebuild in 2015 and together with the 520 Fratelli injectors she has an healthy 125 HP.
The turbo is also 2013 and is the stock one, so no difficulties finding one anywhere might it fail somewhere in the bush.
It has a massive intercooler with fan and all hoses are silicone.
The alternator is 100A and also new in 2013.
Original Power Steering
A reinforced clutch and a VW golf 3 flywheel.
All motorparts are from ( oldest ) 2013 and done aprox. 30.000km
But because of bad luck there will be a brand new ZERO km engine in the syncro.
New in being completely rebuild, bill is there.
The gearbox is the original one and no noises there. Shifts like new and has new oil every 3 years.
It has a diff lock and decoupler.
The driveshaft has been overhauled in 2015 with greaseable joints and has been balanced.
Front diff also has new oil every 3 years and a diff lock.
CV joints are the Porsche ones.
Front upper wishbones are the adjustable ones from Burley Motorsports.
It has Seikel springs and OME Nitro shocks and a 20mm liftkit.
Front shocks are made 5cm longer for more wheel travel and rear shock mounts are custom to provide 5,5cm more travel.
Most bushings are replaced by Polyurethaan Powerflex and all brakehoses are stainless braided.
Front brakes are 312mm vented and drilled from Audi A6 and the rear are 300mm vented and drilled with golf calipers.
Wheels are Ronal R7 flat black powder coated and she has 8! of them.
Exhaust is custom and has a nice sound but not crazy loud.
The six tiers have 1000km on them, so NEW.
Hankook Dynapro AT 215/85 R16 , yes that is 31inch!
Then the most eyecatching feature, the Exo-skelleton Rollcage.
It holds the two spare wheels, 2 Hella reversing LED lights, a 95W Solar panel, power WIFI antenna, 4 small Hella high beam lights, The ARB 250 x 250 Awning, a hazard beacon light on the rear and more.
The popup roof is made by SCA and very high quality.
Inside the interior is made in 2016 from 6mm birch HPL with custom matrass and the bed is a royal 160cm x 200cm.
It has a lot of drawers and storage space, the leisure battery is a optima yellowtop from 2017 and the starter battery is an Optima red top , just a few months old.
It has a waeco Compressor drawer fridge , Led lights everywhere, a small table, new Curtains, a Webasto Airtop nightheater and a Mastervolt 300W 220V pure sinus inverter. A Victron Solar charger and a Ctek battery charger.
Passenger seat swiffels.
A T-Max air compressor is in the front behind the dash.
It has a Shurflo trailking water pump and a Kenwood 400W amplifier with Pioneer speakers front and rear.
It has in- and outside temperature and custom overhead storage in the front.
A 7000 pound Ramsy winch is behind the custom front bumper witch also holds the Hella LED running Lights.
The speedo is a Digital one and it has multiple USB chargers.
Underneath is a 6mm aluminium long range fuel tank that holds 74 liters, and it pumps into the main tank.
So you can take aprox. 130 liters of diesel, that’s 1300km without refueling.
Also it has an outside shower at the rear and at the sliding door.
In 2010 the syncro was voted best of show at 25 years Syncro and at VW Action it was top 10 watercooled and top 10 daily driver.
In 2013 it was second at Vanfest ( no interior back then )
So, back then the Syncro was immaculate, pristine and a solid 10.
Mind that the restauration was done 10 years ago and the van has travelled a bit.
The left side seams have started rusting and are sandblasted and painted black. To make a show winner out of it, this has to be take care of.
And next to the towbar there is also a 5mm bubble in the paint.
The black where the windshield wipers are is not so nice anymore, but no rust.
The left triangle little front window could do with new foil.
The black stripes are vinyl and come off if you want, but the left side seams are painted black.
As known to most of you, at the moment it has no engine.
There is a new one on the way. Completely rebuild M-TDI with new pistons, new crankshaft, new pushrods, ect. the lot. Zero miles
And now the price… it is not cheap, only the best parts available are used and I spend a lot, really a lot of money on the car.
Insurance value is a whopping 70.000 euro’s , a bit steep and perhaps 45.000 would be more realistic.
Just think of all the unique parts and man-hours that have gone in to it.
Asking price is € 32.000,- euro's
