1984 VW Transporter DOKA 1.9 TDI ALH   Price: $15500
For sale is my 1984 VW Transporter Double Cab (DOKA) 2WD. I purchased this in May of 2009 and have gradually rebuilt the mechanical components. The vehicle is registered in California as a diesel. The previous owner had a 2.1 water boxer gas engine that was on it's last legs. Currently the vehicle has 105,500 miles. I purchased the vehicle with approximately 60,000 miles. I started my rebuild by removing all the suspension components, having them media blasted and powder coated or replaced. New springs brake calipers, disks, wheel bearings, bushings, Bilstein shocks, shift rod bushings, and so on. The rear brakes are a custom disk assembly utilizing 2000 vintage rear VW Passat calipers, Mercedes brake discs, with the machining of the mounts done by a machine shop. The wheels are German Borbet 16" with low mileage General Grabber AT2 tires. The fuel tank and steering rack are new and purchased from Van-Cafe. There is a power steering pump mounted on the engine but is not plumbed to the front at this time but is an option if someone chooses to replace the steering rack in the future. The engine is a 2000 vintage VW 1.9 TDI ALH from a Jetta. This had around 60,000 miles when purchased from a wrecking yard. I upgraded the turbocharger to the VNT-17, Malone Tuning Stage 4, re-worked ecu by Fast-Forward Automotive in Canada. This included the egr delete and a few other modifications. The throttle is "drive-by-wire". The OBDII connector for the ecu has a bluetooth device that communicates with an Android device using the Torque app. This gives all the engine parameters along with speed. The engine conversion/mount system was from eurospecsport.com. This includes a heavy duty cross-member mount with VW engine mounts designed for the diesel engines along with a VW bell housing that mates the TDI to the 094 4-speed transmission. The motor mount does not allow the stock 1.9 TDI air conditioning pump to fit and therefore there's an aftermarket idler pulley so the accessory belt works properly. I think the stock air conditioning could be mounted to the stock location with modification to the motor mount. I have a brand new stock air conditioning pump that comes with the sale. The intercooler is an aftermarket air to air located in the rear in the engine compartment which includes a cooling fan tied in with the ecu. The transmission has gone through a few iterations with gearing. Most of the overhauled parts came from Weddle Industries and the final transmission configuration/rebuild occurred at 98,700 miles in October 2017. This was done by Transaxle Engineering in Chatsworth California. The final gearing produces 2600 rpm at 55 mph and approximately 3200 rpm at 65 mph. This is a reasonable configuration in my opinion. Current fuel economy is 28-29 mpg mixed use. In addition, I replaced the front seats with some buckets out of a Vanagon. The headlights have been upgraded to Hella H4 units which I purchased from Van-Cafe. Within the last 200 miles I replaced the timing belt. At 60,000 miles I replaced the timing belt, water pump, accessory belt, rollers, etc. Also within the last 200 miles I had the injectors rebuilt by Diesel Injection Systems in Santa Maria CA after noticing a "knock" which was diagnosed as worn injectors/nozzles. The .216 nozzles were replaced with new at the time of injector rebuild. At this time I'm ready to let the next person continue with the bodywork/paint and interior. To that end, the previous owner had a low quality paint job done, and it shows on some of the panels with fading/peeling. I have north of $35,000 at this stage and believe this is a good start for the next owner. Thanks for looking. Allan
